Has someone been hit by a piece of malware on Android? I mean... like in real life (not on purpose)?

Yeah, once, few weeks ago. I was looking for a game that wasn't on the Android Market and i found it on a website. I downloaded and Dr.Web immediately alerted. It was an SMS sender trojan. I uploaded to virustotal and only F-Secure and Kaspersky detected it but maybe other vendors don't share the android version database with the desktop version. I say this because Dr.Web desktop version couldn't detect it but their android version detected it.

Sorry but i forgot to save the virustotal results. I send it to ESET and they put it in the database 3 or 4 days later. I kept the apk file because i wanted to know how fast other vendors detect it.

Ikarus scans quickly but no icon visible and very few features compared to Webroot Free.

    A work in progress?

They will never put a visual icon on system tray of your Android device, because it may suck battery life.

    This is their official answer...

Probably the best free version I have tried so far in terms of features and no battery drain on my SG2.

Me too. I am fed up with Kaspersky, even though I don't have any issues with it like battery drain or slowness on my SG2, but whenever I use my task manager to free up some ram it kills Kaspersky too.

By the way Blackcat, do you think the free version is enough or should I go for the paid version?

    Cheers!

I do own an android tablet, that's it, no smartphone. So I really don't think I need a real-time AV as long as I don't download stuff from suspicious places... :argh:
I made the question because I consider the malware landscape on Android very reduced at this point.

Personally I think that the free version should be sufficient for most people. Just see how it runs on your phone.

At the present time I would not pay for any Android AV.

I am back to using Kaspersky. I am facing the same problem with Webroot, whenever I am using Samsung's task manager to free up some ram, it kills Webroot too.

The scans are fast and very light, but it can be easily disabled by the task manager. Can you please confirm this issue on your device Blackcat since you own a SG2?

    Thanks,
    Ziaul

Never used the inbuilt Task manager.

Try Fast Reboot; https://market.android.com/details?id=com.greatbytes.fastreboot&feature=search_result frees memory but has no effect on AV running.

Kav developers are aware of it (easy to remove and uninstall) and promised to protect it in future major releases of their android AV... lets see if it happens sooner than later...:)

Do you like Webroot better than Zoner? I recall you running that awhile back.

I kill tasks at least once or twice a day because in the background sometimes these apps like music, messaging and browser keep running and slowly they drain the battery.

By the way Fast Reboot is doing the trick, I really like this app. Thanks Blackcat.

    Cheers!

Is there a way to configure the free version of Fast Reboot? I don't seem to be able to access any settings.

    Hi Victek,
I am using the pro version. In the free version there is no such option.

    Best Regards,
    Ziaul
