Hey, I have a question/idea. Would it be possible to some how implement a script or something here at Wilders that each member could run to get a rundown of what percentage of posts were posted in certain areas? Example: User = Capp Software and Services -> 150 posts -> 20% NOD32 Version 2 Forum -> 100 posts -> 9% Ten Forward -> 350 posts -> 45% etc.. Just a thought.
Maybe it could have the little colored bar graph similar to the Polls. That would be cool. Any thoughts?
another idea: extend the plugin to see what percentage of posts in the forum belong to [member name here]. that u way u can see who posted the most/least in the forum.
Not really what I had in mind. Ok, you know the little bar graph you see when someone starts a poll? Something like that where it would show how many posts a specific user has posted in what forums and what percentage. Only one user at a time though, maybe something inside the user profile. Example: User = AnyUser Forum - <bar graph> - % Ten-Fowared ========= 60% NOD32v2 ===== 15% Privacy == 5% Acronis ====== 20%
This would be cool, but let's add the break down with the numbers as well. I.e. User: (Example). Number Posts: 1000. 50% = Ten-forward (500). 50% = Other security software (500). Thanks Wildman
@Wildman....that was the original idea I mentioned in the first post @mercurie....Thanks, I though it would be a good idea
Of course this would be an opt-in feature, right? User = Anyuser !! UNABLE TO TALLY !! <Anyuser> Says part of security is obscurring your information and making it not worth someone's effort to retrieve. If you want to profile their useage, start counting. Or did you mean to only see your own useage because of senior moments and forgetting?
I've looked around for an existing Mod that does this and there doesn't seem to be one readily available... And with vB 3.5 coming so close to release, it's not likely I'll find anything in the near term. But, the idea has merit so I'll add it to the list.
@ Firepost ..I sense a bit of sarcasm in your post. @ LowWaterMark...Mike, glad you like the idea. Maybe to make infrequent posters like FirePost happy, it could be a checkbox in the user profile. Something like: [] Allow others to see my forum posting count.
My intent WAS to inject a bit of humor into the post. I am sorry if that came across wrong. I do dislike the idea of giving forum users a simple way of tracking the posts percentages or areas of interest. Any time data are aggregated it can lead to exploits of that data. In this context it can lead to the same mindset where people say a "guest" post is worthless because they did not log in, or an "infrequent posters like FirePost" have less relevance because they are new to the forum.
If we are able to come up with an feature like this it will mostly likely be a personal User CP feature, meaning a member would only be able to get their own posting stats and percentages. It probably won't have an option to view the stats for other member IDs anyway.
You didn't come across as wrong, I was just giving you a hard time. I think it could be good and bad for people to be able to see each others. The reason be.. Good: If you have some massive poster on here giving you advice on how to do something critical, then you check their posting stats and you see 99% of their "massive posts" are in 10F, you might be a little skeptical. But if you see someone with 250 posts and you check and see that 248 of them are in valuable discussions, you'd be more inclined to go with their suggesstions. Bad: As you said above, this could be construed the wrong way. @Mike...I agree with having it in the CP. That would be a great place to put it and make it easy to access.
