There are no options to mess with the web filter, and the only thing that you can do with the AV is turn it on or off. For the future, if you want to turn on or off Parental Controls (and I just refreshed my memory on how it works), Check whatever box on the category you want to change, then right click (you would want allow on all), then click OK. Simple as that. But actually I think you made a better choice in uninstalling it.
Notice that parental controls is the web filter. Thats the only module out there and no it cannot be disabled but it can be turned off to not filter anything.
That's right- there is a section to block or allow Malicious sites, in addition to the typical Parenteral Control thingies. Thank you Matt for the correction!
Right, but what I'm saying is, none of the checkboxes would respond at all. I have no issues blocking malware sites, but as far as "rated" content goes, I don't want it filtered. This isn't a work PC when I have to have facebook & dating sites blocked. If disabling parental controls disabled the web scanning, then this isn't the right AV for my needs. I'd like something that protects from downloading malware, yet not interfere with browsing harmless sites. Mattdocs, can you post the link of where you downloaded your forticlient file from? Maybe I'm downloading a different version than everyone else (though I doubt it)
After I got the problem (also reported by many users) with tcpip.sys, I uninstalled FC. Nice, but scans are quite slow.
These are default settings which can be changed. Follow these instructions: 1) click parental controls 2) click settings 3) left click on each "potentially liable" and check the checkbox 4) then without moving your cursor right click 5) click allow http://www.forticlient.com/
Click parental controls - check Click settings - there's no settings to click I can't stress this issue enough lol I'll try reinstalling one more time in a few days, but yeah... Something got botched big time.
Yeah something wrong with your installation. Make sure you download FortiClient 5 from here: -http://www.forticlient.com/download-forticlient-windows.html
From what I remember I think you have to open forticlient GUI with admin rights to get access to parental controls settings. You can try right click on the desktop shortcut and choose run as administrator option.
OK, good to know. I'll try running it again tonight and see how it goes. Thanks! Any particular reason? if you don't want to bash them in public, feel free to PM me.
Update: Installed again with the installer set as run as admin, and then ran the GUI as admin. Everything working perfectly. Now, I just have to decide if I want to keep it.
Forticlient used to create an exception rule under windows firewall settings to allow incoming connections to its program. If we set windows firewall to block all incoming connections ignoring all the exceptions forticlient web filter might not work. But I am not sure about this as I used forticlient a while back. Can anyone confirm this? Correct me if I am wrong Has anyone tested their computer firewall settings using online facilities like grc.com shieldsup test to see if any ports are open with forticlient installed? When I was using forticlient I could not test my firewall as I was using a modem which had its own firewall and settings.
SM1, forticlient doesn't include a firewall, unless you're talking about Fortinet's hardware firewall, which is business class, and seems to be pretty good quality. I'm using Win8's firewall, but I can check that for you if you'd like. Edit: Ran ShieldsUp against my system (router, Win8 firewall) and it passed. Not sure if I'm the best test subject for you though.
Has anyone using the current build in windows 8? I had issues when using an earlier build of version 5 like slow start up, pictures of user accounts not shown correctly in login screen etc
blasev, entropism & trjam thanks for the inputs I have installed it and everything works fine . Firewall stealth tests done using a usb dongle directly connected to my system show all ports stealthed. But forticlient creates inbound exception rules in windows firewall.I think it may be for its remote access features (VPN). I have blocked all inbound connections even for all programs under exceptions. But forticlient functions fine
this one is getting real hard to throw away. I keep trying but it keeps ending back up on my computers. The detection is amazing and it has very little impact on system. For free I think that is why it has become a keeper.
