Avira has been slowly declining for a while now. Just because it's better than Avira DOESN'T make it great.
Out of 21 AVs tested, Fortinet is better than 12 of them. The detection rate is 99.3%. This is a great detection rate for a free AV. It beats not only Avira but also Bull Guard and McAfee and Panda. Do you research before you imply that a certain AV has a poor detection rate.
wondering why they hid the app firewall? anyone know really? the website shows its in the suite. or is the free version just AV only

yes. since version 5.04, they remove firewall and vulnerability scan for standalone user (free version) you can read that on : -http://docs.fortinet.com/fclient/forticlient-admin-504.pdf-
is there any offline installer? how much is the first update? (the program does not show any sign about total DL,percentage, etc.)
no offline installer is available on this moment I dont know how much the first update is, all I know it takes 531mb on program files folder.
Forticlient FP on TCPIP.SYS This one just bit my brother yesterday - it quarantines tcpip.sys and kills internet connectivity. His was Windows 8 but apparently this is happening on Windows 7 systems, too. People are having real problems getting their systems fixed. (I couldn't restore the affected file from quarantine and had to resort to reinstalling his machine as new from his restore partition. For now I have him on a different AV.) See: http://support.fortinet.com/forum/tm.asp?m=99631&p=1&tmode=1&smode=1
Re: Forticlient FP on TCPIP.SYS Hmmm no problems here. Im running Windows 8 64 bit. Perhaps the issue has been resolved already?
Re: Forticlient FP on TCPIP.SYS no problem here although forticlient does quarantine tcpip.sys on my system but the file originated from : C:\Windows\WinSxS\amd64_....\
Sorry, late reply because I never check this thread, but... Do my research on detection rates? Do your research on the nuances of the English language. I said: "Just because it's better than Avira DOESN'T make it great." "Just because a meal is better than McDonalds, Doesn't make it great" "Just because you didn't get a D, doesn't mean you did well in the class" I never said this had poor detection, I just said that Avira is no longer the shining pinacle to compare against. So yeah, take your attitude and do your own research, ok?
My english is poor, so I cant debate on statement since I don't have the knowledge to do so. nevertheless facts are stronger than words simple as that
So I'm trying out Forticlient 5, is there any way to edit the parental controls or do you need their hardware firewall for that? I have no options screen, nothing I can configure at all, outside of setting up a VPN I don't need.
Go to Parental Controls, click settings, uncheck Adult content, potentially liable or whatever you like by right clicking on either checklist.
did you open gui with admin rights? also, make sure you check the options page and make sure that the lock sign is in the unlocked position
The only options page I could find was for the parental controls, but the checkboxes couldn't be clicked. Only other thing that was interactive was the "Scan my computer" button in the AV section, and setting up the VPN.
See, that's the odd thing, I had no menu bar either. Something was seriously off about my install. Are you downloading it from http://www.forticlient.com/ (5.0) or from Forticlientlite.com and getting 4.3? Performance and detection seemed great from when I tried it, but if there's no options, it's a waste for me. If I can figure out WTF I was doing wrong, seems like a great AV for me.
Checking the boxes really doesn't do anything, and this is probably the issue (I'm assuming that you are using FC version 5). As most things are blocked by default, try this- Dating is blocked by default; go to a site (you can try datehookup.com) and see what you get. If you want to block other things that are indicated as being allowed- Open up the Parental Control Settings section- go to whatever item on the left pane and Right-Click it. You will now see a drop down menu to allow, block, warn, monitor. Please let us know if this assisted.
It didn't, as I'm trying to turn parental control OFF completely. Nothing can be changed from the install that I did, not the web filter, not the AV settings, nothing outside of setting up the VPN. I switched back to F-secure for the time being, but I'll be trying to install Forticlient again on my laptop to see what went wrong.
