I have upgraded to Vivald 5.6 and I can't believe it, this feature has finally been added, awesome stuff! Now why did it have to take so long? This is the best Vivaldi version ever LOL. Now let's try to fix these other annoying bugs like with tab stacking and too high RAM usage. Seems like Edge is trying to tackle this stuff, see link. And thanks again! :thumb:

I'm afraid I have some bad news about this new bookmarking style feature. Whenever I bookmark a website, I noticed that Vivaldi will spike the CPU to 12% and RAM usage increases by 1GB before Windows Memory Compression kicks in and free's up RAM.

This CPU spike may also result in a 1 second annoying browser freeze. So this feature needs to be optimized ASAP. I must say that I often keep Vivaldi in memory for days so this might also play a role, and my bookmarks file is quite big with 6000+ items, but nevertheless this shouldn't happen.

    Updated to Vivaldi 5.6.2867.50.

Now my taskbar at bottom doesn't appear the bottom Vivaldi Status Bar stays put. How do I get it back so that when I rollover the Vivaldi Status Bar my Win7 taskbar shows up?

Has the snap package improved? I just wondered if anyone had any recent experiences with it. I'm loath to try Opera on my new Linux laptop.

Is there a Vivaldi snap? I cannot find any information about that.
Is there a chance you're mistaken with Brave? (Which has a snap, however it's recommended to install Brave by adding the repository.)

Oh, sorry, my mistake. I was actually thinking of Opera. They have history! :argh:

Ok I toggled on & off Status Bar under Appearance. Now it's working again. Hope it stays that way.

Edit: NOT working again. I don't know what's going on.

Incidentally, since it became basically a Chromium clone, Opera isn't what it was. The only Chromium-based browser properly usable on Ubuntu for me is Brave. As a consequence I only have two browsers on my new Linux laptop. Firefox and Brave. But I'm digressing off-topic. I did so want to run Vivaldi on Linux. I had the original beta running on Ubuntu, I had high hopes for Vivaldi. Now sadly dashed to pieces on the rocks of disappointment.

I feel for you Daveski17. During the 2yrs non compete I had to run to Firefox. I felt in exile. Thank goodness for Vivaldi. And please don't sell it for another Billion Dollars like Opera.

Interestingly, the Firefox snap runs superbly on Ubuntu. I couldn't be happier with it. I admit I'm a bit surprised Mozilla pulled it off. It's just my subjective opinion, but I think Vivaldi is overrated. The only Chromium-based browser that saves auto-fill for me on Linux is Brave. Which is now my default on Ubuntu. Otherwise I'm spending all day having to use 2FA with my phone to log back in to all my bookmarks. This used to happen with Chrome on both my Lenovo G500 (bought pre-installed with Ubuntu) and my new bespoke Juno. All Juno laptops are made down in the Smoke (London) and preinstalled with Linux. Before my G500 gave up the ghost and went the way of the dodo I couldn't even uninstall Vivaldi on it. I won't ever install it on the Juno. I'd rather walk around the Wrekin with nails in my shoes. Admittedly Vivaldi worked fine on Windows, and works well on macOS. Either way it's now gone from all of my computers (except the G500, but that's toast).

You can say that again, thank goodness for Vivaldi. It's the best browser ever and my most used app. This doesn't mean it's already finished though, there's plenty to be improved. Firefox has let me down, they are too busy with all of those milions they get from Google.

BTW, this serious bug about ''slow bookmarking performance'' has been reported by others as well on the Vivaldi forum. Hopefully you can take a look at it, because it makes bookmarking very unpleasant in Vivaldi 5.6 and I have tried it with Firefox, it doesn't have any problems even when you have 6000+ bookmarks. Perhaps the thumbnail feature should be scrapped, who needs them anyway?

Is it repeatedly reproducible? If it is, please file a bug report on https://vivaldi.com/bugreport with detailed steps for our dev team to follow.

As for bookmarks, I've pinged our QA to take a look.

Each to his own. I was serious about the Wrekin (and the nails).

I'm not sure if it should be called a bug, I think it's a matter of reprogramming how Vivaldi handles tabs inside a stack. When it comes to the ''Close Tab Activation'' settings, normally Vivaldi will correctly activate (or close to) the left or right tab.

But once tabs are stacked, it might close to tabs that are inside another stack. Probably because the activated tab in tabstack B was spawned from some website in tabstack A, so now it wrongly closes to tabstack B. So basically, Vivaldi should ignore this parent-child tab relationship once you use tabstacking.

OK thanks, it's really quite an annoying bug, I find myself not wanting to bookmark stuff at the moment because of the performance hit. It's mentioned over here in the Vivaldi forum, and I'm RasheedHolland:

Also, I totally forget to mention the other serious bug in Vivaldi which seems to occur only on Win 7 and Win 8.1, if I'm correct. Somehow, Vivaldi's window size isn't displayed correctly anymore on my desktop screen with a resolution of 1024*768.

It looks like certain parts like the statusbar and tab-bar have been ''cut off'' when fully maximized. This happens with the latest Vivaldi 5.6 version and doesn't seem to affect my Win 10 laptop. No offence, but such programming blunders shouldn't be made!

Cool, but what about the annoying bugs in Vivaldi (Windows) that still haven't been fixed? The last two topics aren't bugs, but requests.
