Former Opera CEO Launches Vivaldi, A New Browser For Power Users

I dont see anything power user with this browser.

 

Recommended for someone into privacy and security?

The benefits of switching over to this browser?

 

It has more customization options than other browsers like Chrome. But for me it's a bit too heavy and sluggish, it uses too much RAM and CPU time. That's why I decided to stay with Firefox, which isn't perfect either, but will be improved in the coming years.

 

I haven't had any real problem with sluggishness or unresponsiveness. After reading about the reputation for sluggishness in another thread, I did a side by side comparison with Opera 41 and had both browsers load the same sequence of Youtube videos. This is a completely subjective test but I couldn't perceive any noticeable difference in speed and responsiveness. I use both browsers for Facebook which is even more demanding and constantly running scripts from multiple domains and both perform equally. Vivaldi still has some rough areas, but it gets more polished with each release.

 

Actually, I've just tested Vivaldi v.1.6 and I was pleasantly surprised, it seems to be the best version yet. It has way less CPU usage, and websites load very quickly. RAM usage is still too high, with 16 tabs open it used 23 processes with a total usage of 2GB. But looks like in the coming year, it will become a battle between Vivaldi and Firefox, for the most innovative browser.

For other main browsers you can find a portable version, but at the moment there is no official portable version of Vivaldi available.
