I think it's time to stop fooling myself. I don't see myself switching to Vivaldi anymore, because of several reasons. I have to applaud them for adding so many useful features, but I still see the same bugs after so many months, and it just feels too heavy.

I think much is to blame on Chromium, I just freaking hate the "multi-process browsing" architecture. Even if Vivaldi has only one tab open, you sometimes see 10 active processes. And don't forget about the ridiculous amounts of RAM that is being used by all Chromium based browsers. I'm also sick and tired of Flash video playing problems.

You already "experienced" the disadvantages of multi-process browing, but i have some lecture about the advantages: ;)

I still use a combo of Opera 12 and Firefox. Most websites are not corrected rendered by Opera 12 (Presto) anymore so I use it only for a couple of favorite sites. For global browsing I use FF, but it feels a bit choppy, so it definitively needs a new engine. I had high hopes for Vivaldi, but enough is enough. It's bloated and should be more responsive, and less resource hungry. But it ain't going to happen. When it comes to features it's clearly superior to Chrome and Opera, so kudos for that.

I have never experienced any major stability and security issues with single-process browsers. I rather have a more lightweight framework. I'm really afraid that FF will become just as bloated as Chromium. That would be a nightmare because the new Firefox is my last hope.

They will enable multi-process for FF too in later versions. But it will be less RAM-intensive than with Chromium-browsers:
I agree. I tried Vivaldi, but it was too choppy.
But maybe things has changed since i used it several months ago (v1.2)

I checked it out weeks ago and was not impressed at all. But perhaps I'm extremely picky and sensitive about certain things, every detail matters to me. The browser is my most used tool, and back in the days Maxthon and Opera 11/12 were my favorite tools. But the newest browsers are all a step back. That's why I'm so annoyed with the current situation.

Would be cool if they managed to make the new multi-process FF a lot lighter (less RAM and less processes) than Chromium. It's really sad, the current situation reminds of the way a lot of people think about the coming USA elections, it's a matter of which one sucks less. I'm not exactly a fan of the current FF, but overall it's slightly better than Chrome, Vivaldi and Opera.

Too bad that the Blink engine is faster than Gecko, but hopefully the new FF engine will rock. But why didn't they launch it years ago? Sadly enough, MS Edge is also a joke and can't be trusted if you look at all the spying stuff that's going on on Win 10. And Presto should have never been killed by Opera, so to hell with them.

Does anyone know if Vivaldi can block animated gifs in webpages?

You need the help of an extension for blocking animated gifs.
