This is precisely why browsers have "customization."

If you dont like the look then change it.

I have tried quite a few versions of this browser but have never really liked it even though I was a fan of the older Opera browser & engine. It does have a lot of customisation but to me there are options that are still missing & the default setting where the UI takes it colour from the website you are on is very distracting, thankfully it can be turned off. I will try it again when it hits stable release though.

I was skeptical months ago, but they really have come a long way. It's now the most customizable browser based on the Blink engine. It's only missing a couple of other features from Opera 12, and it needs some polishing. For example:

    - Double click on tab bar should open new tab
    - Bookmarks manager should be tab based
    - Double click on bookmark should open it in new tab

    - Give an option to hide Close button on tabs
    - Give an option to hide Speed Dial
    - Give an option to bookmark all open tabs
    - Give an option to close tabs to the right or left

I like it so far, but I really don't want to use it as a main browser until I can supply a custom URL for the new tab page. I don't mind if it's an extension or not (I have to use an extension on other browsers anyway), but with the builds I've tried the extensions don't work; you're locked into Speed Dial, which I don't use. I don't like using the home button for this because it doesn't open in a new tab.

I would like options to set StartPage, HomePage & NewTabPage to Blank.

Are there 'customize appearance' options yet? Where you can choose which toolbars are shown or hidden, and placed at top or bottom? Also a list of the buttons, allowing one to drag them onto a toolbar wherever they may like?

I don't think all of that will be possible, Vivaldi is basically a shell build upon the Chromium browser (with the Blink engine), so certain Opera 12 features will be hard to offer. But I suggest you check it out, it's already quite good. The only thing that's bugging me is that the Chromium architecture is so bloated, this is definitely not an improvement when compared to the lightweight Opera Presto and IE Trident engine.

I really can't wait to switch to Vivaldi, because I'm getting tired of having to constantly switch between Opera 12 and Firefox. About 70% of all modern sites don't load correctly in Opera 12 anymore, and FF feels a bit slow, plus it has the worst bookmark manager ever.

I just downloaded the latest build of Vivaldi. Looks good, and I like it so far.It may take time to find everything. I know a former Opera guy is responsible for putting it out, but can anyone tell me what country? Thanks.

It was designed in Norway, but actually made in China like everything else. Only kidding. ;)

Yes, it only needs a few finishing touches. I'm not a big fan of the Chromium framework, but I have no choice but to upgrade. I'm still a bit mad that they killed Presto. But I have to say that the Blink browser engine is fast as hell. BTW, does Flash work inside Vivaldi? On my system it doesn't.

is that really true? are so many sites not working with opera 12 now, that you have no choice but to change to another browser? generally for me, most sites work ok, though some a bit shoddily, still, for other sites that cannot work, i have firefox as a backup

Yes it's true. I still use Opera 12 because about 10 to 15 of my favorite sites still work just fine, but as soon if you want to do some general browsing, you will see that pages don't load correctly (high CPU Usage) or don't work correctly. Luckily enough Opera has an "Open with Firefox" option, but I'm getting a bit tired of that. I just hope Vivaldi will be ready for prime time soon.

Rasheed187, I just downloaded Vivaldi a few days ago, and find it loads web sites pretty fast and consistent. My Firefox of late has on the other hand not been able to load pages more than I would like. "Can't find the server, try again."
