Standard User Account for all daily activities of course. :thumb:

Always make sure that anything potentially malicious can only inherit the least amount of privileges possible.

I also run Admin. Few pieces of business software I run all the time so limited doesn't work for me. But like Mister X i do run a good suite of security

It certainly can encrypt under local administrator account and have an easier time doing so. Under a default Windows standard account, it could encrypt any data that account had read write access to and could download and launch an executable file or script to do so. It won't be able to encrypt the administrator's or other users files. If the account was further locked down so execution was not permitted from a user's folder and a few other folders like the temp folder, it will be safe from most of the ransomware out there. In a local administrator account, all it will take is a click on the wrong link or file. In a locked down account, it will have a hard time executing the program or script that does the encryption.

I tried standard account when using XP and Vista, and there were always problems. Admin + UAC and my security have never failed to stop anything malicious. I also would like to say yet again, I can't see or have experienced any of the zillions of malware that AV companies claim are created everyday. The only malware that I occasionally encounter is usually with third party flash drives, but never when browsing. IMO standard account is only useful if one shares a computer with other people...

Have you tried qBittorrent for the same problem? I'm thinking of using Standard user account very soon.

No, I didn't try qBittorrent. If program installs in user profile instead of program files folder and needs admin right to install at the same time, it could have similar problem.

it is why i am using portable versions in priority; no need the hassles from installed versions. For torrents, i have Tixati portable; no issues with SUA + UAC. By using portable apps you avoid lot of trouble with security apps.

Strange, it must be something uTorrent specific I guess.

Yes, I don't know why it needs admin rights and then installs inside user profile. Usually asking for admin rights means installing system wide. Well, who knows?

It depends, because if you need to modify advanced settings you will need Admin account, anyways you can have a standard account but provide admin permission for anything you need (I think it is from Windows 7 to windows 10.1 (Current))

May I suggest VoodooShield as an anti-exe/Ai, extra but important layer? Try it. Ask Daniel for a license.
If so, I suggest to start off on Autopilot Mode.

I don't see the need for an anti-exe with Shadow Defender.

Neither do I JoAnn and I also use an Admin account (with Shadow Defender enabled). Btw, I too received WSA free from my bank. ;)

Exactly my point, I have tried to explain at least 1000th of times that there is no reason to run in LUA, when you're already protected by security tools and common sense. LUA + UAC is highly overrated, and not worth the hassle. Of course, for regular users I would suggest a simpler security setup. :D

Admin but protected as per signature for primary machine below.
SUA is not practical for me and would drive me nuts.

^ Basically this in a nutshell.

However am ever so slowly working in bits and pieces of Excubits stuff LoL and will like to add AppCheck as soon as it hits prime time just because it seems to have some great potential against mr crypto's gang as they start mixing things up again and releasing more clever pinch point intrusion designs.

You should reconsider. Some of the newer malware can get on your system, do it's damage and be gone, before you ever reboot. I love shadow defender and it has some excellent privacy point, but as protection against nasty malware, may be once, but not any more.
