The company is now testing out a new service that can automatically print and mail the best photos you've taken every month.

For $8 a month, Google will automatically select ten of your best pictures from the previous month, print them on 4×6 matte white cardstock with an 1/8-inch border, and mail them to you. Instead of receiving random images, you'll be able to set a preference by selecting if you'd like to mostly see people and pets, landscapes, or a mix of everything.

The program is currently run as a trial in the US and is available to a limited number of users. To see if you're eligible to try it out, head over to the Google Photos website and check if there's a banner at the top of the page mentioning the program. If you're not, you can still have your shots printed at CVS or Walgreens, but you'll have to pick these manually.

Google Photos has offered the ability to create and order photo books for years, but earlier this year, a new subscription option for photo prints was added.

However, after only four months, Google is ending the service.

"We are ending the monthly photo prints trial program as of June 30, 2020," Google wrote in an email to subscribers, "in order to make improvements based on your feedback. Although we will be ending the trial program, we hope that you have experienced some joy from the prints you received along the way."
The service was only ever available to a limited number of Google Photos users in the United States.

Google Photos has made it incredibly easy for everyone to keep their memories safe and organized in the cloud, but having printed copies is still something special. In the not-too-distant future, Google Photos may introduce a “Premium Print Series” which offers prints on a monthly basis.

With “Premium Print Series,” Google Photos will apparently offer a monthly subscription which prints of photos suggested by Google that can include postcard info on the back. Each month, 10 photos are suggested which users can review and edit, as well as skip a month if they choose.

Sound familiar? Google ran a trial of a similar idea from January to June which had the same basic concept, but actually cost a dollar more. The revived version of the project was discovered by Jane Wong in the Google Photos app.
So, when is this new service coming to users? Right now, we have genuinely no idea. However, given how developed the pages in the app are at this point, it’d be reasonable to expect a formal announcement basically any day now.

If you’re someone who never prints out any of the photos you take with your smartphone, Google might have a good solution. For $6.99 a month, it’ll use machine learning to automatically select 10 of your best photos and send the prints right to your door.

The company announced the service today, which it started trialing earlier this year. There don’t seem to be any differences between the trial and the newly announced “premium print series,” which will be available “in the coming weeks,” but Google has at least lopped a dollar off the monthly price. That’s nice, though you’re still paying extra for the convenience of having your photos selected and mailed to you.
For the trial service, Google allowed subscribers to give directions to the algorithm, telling it to prioritize “people and pets,” “landscapes,” or just send “a little bit of everything.”

Users will have some options for their monthly deliveries, though.

“To give you control over what photos you get and how they look, you can edit your photo selection, choose a matte or glossy finish or add a border before your photos ship each month. You can also easily skip a month or cancel the service,” said Google in a blog post.

In addition to the announcement of the premium print series, Google is also adding Walgreens to its same-day printing service (alongside CVS and Walmart).
This lets anyone using Google Photos select and order prints from the app.
