For example, does Firefox have a Workspaces feature? And what about Sleeping tabs? On the other hand it needs an extension for mouse gestures, probably because this is simply not built into Firefox. I do know that Chromium clones like Vivaldi, Brave and Opera have added unique features on top of Chromium, so this seems to be different from Firefox clones like Waterfox, LibreWolf and Floorp. I'm not sure what to do with this? But never mind, I will install Floorp or Waterfox on my friends system. I had to go look for a replacement for Vivaldi since Win 8.1 doesn't support newer versions, and certain sites don't work correctly anymore. Firefox is way too barebones, so it's no serious option.
You have a valid concern and good point here. For me I don't worry with it on Linux and restricted with Apparmor and uBO filters web nasties. Besides, it's typically browser extensions and plugins that are exploited, rather than the browser itself. Firefox has neither of those features.
Yes, so that's why it's so unclear to me if these Firefox clones actually develop features themselves or if they enable hidden features, but why would Firefox hide these useful features? And I also hate that Firefox keeps nagging you about updates, Waterfox doesn't do this.
Well, both sleeping tabs and workspaces can be implemented by several available add-ons. I've never missed both features and I'm glad that Firefox is not cluttered with stuff I don't need. What's wrong with getting informed about updates? They usually fix security or other issues and an immediate update is often advisable.
You add that code to the userchrome.ini file inside you profile location. So, for example, C:\Users\$user$\AppData\Roaming\Floorp\Profiles\$profilename$\chrome\userChrome.ini.
Except that adding "Add-ons" to gain additional features is a bad idea for browser security reasons. But in fairness to the Floorp developers, these features are optional for those who want them, and of course can be left disabled for those who don't. Agreed, I like to be informed about updates.
You should always give an option to stop the nagging about updates, like Vivaldi does. I don't always update browsers right away, because newer versions aren't always better, they might introduce serious bugs, and you can't downgrade Chromium based browsers, not sure about Firefox. And do you know if workspaces and sleeping tabs are features developed by Floorp themselves? That's what I'm trying to figure out. Dumb question, but how would you do this with Firefox, which file should I be looking for?
OK cool, the reason why I asked is because I couldn't find any file related to userChrome.ini on the Win 8.1 machine, this is with Waterfox and Firefox installed.
Userchrome.css needs to be enable in firefox and are user-created. Enable toolkit.legacyUserProfileCustomizations.stylesheets in about:config.
As mentioned, most browser updates fix security issues. Chromium-based browsers have what feels like, at least, one zero-day vulnerability per week. Not updating under those circumstances seems reckless to me. No idea as I've never used Floorp.
@summerheat - mozilla is backporting issues if they are applicable. anyhow its the last build with code fully compatible to windows 7/8, newer versions get this code phased out. for the updates - BS comments #58 at its best again. and its called "tabs unloading", starting as a feature in firefox 93 -> about:unloads https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/unload-inactive-tabs-save-system-memory-firefox firefox 93 went online oct'2021
Sure, but that was not the question. The question was if a user should update immediately. I say: yes, one should. Another participant here disagrees, though.
another - should go to mozillazine and meet a lot of new friends there. such circumstances are not worth to talk about. starting october there will be a lot of silence around of v115 esr users. the major work for author of floorp and similar after october will raise a lot - back porting code to a functional code, could be heavy duty because mozilla is phasing out win7/8 compatible code, they currently already do. that may have been a reason for librewolf to switch to release channel.
Yes correct, they fix security issues that are easily tackled by security software, like anti-exploit. Like I said before, Vivaldi sometimes introduces major bugs in new versions, so no point to install right away. And I knew you didn't use Floorp, but you know quite a lot about Firefox, so that's why I asked if these perhaps were hidden features in Firefox. Or perhaps Floorp has simply integrated certain extensions, who knows.
