I think that a home machine can be locked down, provided the user is actually doing some real work with it rather than playing around with new software, especially security software.

The user response thing is definitely a killer in the business world. However, I subscribe to the view that excessive user responses to security programs result in a net reduction of security. There are so many possible combinations of "application A starts application B" to deal with that the user just views all of it as being equivalent to false alarms. It may be that the security application is doing its job, but it is doing it with no intelligence. Ultimately, the user becomes numb and is likely to approve something he should not have.

It is much better to stay focused on measures to prevent infection rather than placing so much energy into a system to detect malware when it attempts to connect out after the fact of installation.

So, to say that business networks and home networks are different, may simply be a distinction without a difference. Its just an elaborate bunch of malarkie to justify what is ultimately a hobby of testing cutting edge security applications.
