Anybody know a good software firewall for Linux? I've been skimming the net but can't find a decent one. Most of them are outdated and no longer in development. I don't use a router for my wireless connection. Besides, I believe software firewalls have greater control and more configurable than hardware ones. Any recommendation is much appreciated
Normally all distro carry IPtables. If you know your way around and are comfortable with command line, IPtables is made for you. Here is a short tutorial for the same: http://www.linuxhomenetworking.com/...HOWTO_:_Ch14_:_Linux_Firewalls_Using_iptables There are also many GUI available for IPtables. IMO, the best is Firewall Builder
which linux you use for every linux it self have a iptable ipfw and ipfilter...etc so if you use all you need is a gui mode for that firewall if you use ubuntu it have ufw(Uncomplicated Firewall ) to set iptables you can also use GUI for Uncomplicated Firewall (GUFW) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iptables http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uncomplicated_Firewall http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firestarter_(firewall) if you use fedora suse .......... use firestarter for easy start firestart http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firestarter_(firewall)
