the probably most important change for 101 is the choice what to do with downloads

    (in german)
    Code:
Wie soll Nightly mit anderen Dateien verfahren?

    O Dateien speichern
X Fragen, ob Dateien geöffnet oder gespeichert werden sollen
save without asking, or ask to save or open files :thumb:

Is this different than what was described in the 98 beta release notes?

yes, that option was added a week ago in nightly first. the newer behavior up from v98 will resist, as its development lasted ~10 months (not the whole time, in parts). the new option is a result of a lot of complaints about this new feature in v98.
the currently available switch for the old behavior (before v98 )
    -> browser.download.improvements_to_download_panel, false;
    will disappear, thats fact.

for downloads you still can use the right mouse context menu for files, see image here
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/k...-open-file#w_always-open-similar-files-option
a mimetype is added to the list, no longer the need to work on handlers.json or using policies.json for this. only exception: EXE, for this an entry in a policies.json is mandatory. otherwise exe is always loaded, "always open..." not available, security reason.

check out different file types here

    Thanks very much, Brummelchen.
Was there a source for that information? Was it in Nightly release notes, or in the Nightly Blog, or in some other source?
It would be most welcome if you could provide the specific URL where you found that information, if that is in German, that is fine.
I would like to read some more about the details. I already know the Mozilla Support "Manage file types and download actions in Firefox" page.

    https://hg.mozilla.org/releases/

the option is definitely existent ;)

a message from bugzilla concerning the older TEMP behavior

they will add an option, but no visible, you have to find it yourself, and it may available with policies. could fail in networks.

    @Brummelchen,
    Thank you very much.

Quite the discussion, particularly on Bugzilla.
In the attachment in the camp-firefox.de thread I see the same as you wrote, yesterday, and as in the image you attached today, thank you very much. Also the two images in Bugzilla Bug 1747343 show the same idea. (Perhaps that was the bug you were looking for, but didn't find?)
And Bugzilla Bug 1738574 shows there will be an additional option in about:config, thanks for mentioning that as well.

I am not too unhappy with the regular options "Always ask you where to save files" for downloads, and "Always ask" for file handling, but the options for Firefox 101 (and later?) are welcome.

Thanks again for the information, Brummelchen.

from my personal view - mozilla is ruddering back due the amount of complaints. nice idea behind the new dl manager, but not hought until the end. i do not share the problem because i always download files, not temporary. now the are at the same point like firefox 97, but with 3 additional options.
prefs (until it dies), the new option, and policies. i do not moan, but sometimes mozilla has it quirk.

the next questions here - how do firefox remember between sessions which file were temp?
ms edge do not finish complete when closing windows (chromium is complete finished), you need to exit in the hamburger menu. so with window closing edge is still running and can check temp files. how will firefox perform this?
new feature, new options - new boring questions no one knows the answer right now.

and in case of networking, eg terminal server / remote, unknown how performance and stability will end up with the new enterprise policy.

Regarding Mozilla Support page Manage file types and download actions in Firefox,
when under "Customize this article" you select Version 101,
section "Set Firefox to ask you what to do for files with no set content type and download action" will show the new option.

Is there a way to enable the new custom colors feature, which affects all site, without also affection extensions? When I enable that option it also drowns out the colors in uBo.

themes only affects firefox at first, then maybe web pages.
the system theme (depending of OS dark mode or not) can switch page colors if the page has such switch (and ofc a page theme for this)
a page with "dark mode" do not mean its black or so, it can also mean that darker, greay, or blue, whatever web admin has defined.

    this is same as pref
    "layout.css.prefers-color-scheme.content-override"
Dark (0), light (1), system (2) or browser (default) (3).

if you want a dark page of you own they you are tied to extensions, or self made css.

PS uBo and other extensions are treated as parts of firefox.
