Fines for poor data security double in UK

    When things double like this, it's an indication that the fines were token to start with.

    Until the fines and other liabilities start to directly hurt directors' pockets, there will be no real change in behaviors.

    There is a big problem in absence of liability in the public sector, where there is essentially no sanction for what's essentially negligent behaviors (I'm thinking the WannaCry debacle as an example). It's pointless fining the public sector because that just socialises the fine.
