    What is File Governor ?

    File Governor is an advanced program which allows for files and folders within the system to be unlocked so that normal file I/O operations can be completed when normally they would not be able to be due to operating system restrictions for files currently in use. Once a file or folder is unlocked you will be able to force-close the file’s handle, rename, delete etc. File Governor can be used also to unlock files locked by malware or unload malicious DLL files.

    Key Features

    * Compatible with 32 & 64 bit OS
    * Copy File to a User-Specified Directory
    * Add to "Send To" menu
    * Full unicode support
    * No Kernel Driver Needed
    * Rename File to a User-Specified Filename
    * Search for Locked Files
    * Support multilanguage
    * Terminate Processes
    * Unload DLL
    * Unlock ALL Locked Files
    * Unlock Single File
    * Very user-friendly GUI

    Changelog:

    [20-01-2012] – v1.4.0.0

    + Full unicode support
    + Native x64 executable (for x64 OS)
    + Added multilanguage support
    + Added Italian language

    Never mind Comodo was blocking the uninstall. Can I use this to get rid of left over sfi.dat files from windows.old? I can't find any way how to with this program and I thought it could help.

    + Check if the locked file is a system file, if it is, ask user what to do

    A heads up on the Terms and Conditions (taken from release 1.5.2)

    2. Internet-based services components. The Software contains components that enable and facilitate the use of certain internet based services. You acknowledge and agree that the Licensor may automatically check the version of the Software and/or its components that You are utilizing and may provide upgrades or fixes to the Software that will be automatically downloaded to your Workstation Computer.

    I didn't find any option to switch off automatic updating of the program so must say that I really don't like the sound of this. Of course, I'll block it at the firewall, but that's besides the point.

    A response from the developer would be most welcome, particularly after the furore over the Unlocker adware.

    I really don't find anything wrong with that. It basically just explains the update mechanism that's built into the program and how it's done for the user. I bet no other information is sent, just the version number of that particular program. Most programs now a days have the same approach. Is there an option to set updates to manual?

    The name makes more sense in its other product, like: http://vscan.novirusthanks.org/

    But that (novirusthanks) is the company's name. No reason to trash a program (call it "crap") made by a trusted company because of its name.

    You lost a good chance to remain silent.
