It seems heckling the competition isn't confined to sports.

I know that Avira has false positives - I am the one who is causing them. :(

But Fortinet and Escan really go over the top with their detections. Those are really only useable on a gateway. So either the versions IBK will test are non-gateway versions with less aggressive detection, or you won't see 10 false positives, nor 100 but 1000+.

You would have to test them all in the first place to establish that ! So do you mean you only retest and show results from the ones with better detection, after testing them all ? How often do you restest the ones that had lower detection rates in earlier tests to know if they have improved, or not now ?

Personally if i was doing the tests, i wouldn't ask the vendors, i would just do them and publish, nobody could prevent it. Secondly, either way i wouldn't announce when i was doing them.

Also i would include the latest malware from say, the previous week right up until the test starts, rather than only rely on months old samples. Catching older malware is obviously important, not that all AV's do ? but the newer often nastier and harder to illiminate stuff is just as essential, if not more so. As more malware of this calibre is being released daily, i would say it's a high priority to know which products are on top of this.

I do welcome the tests and look forward to comparing the figures, and appreciate all the work and time that goes into a project like this.

I think that AVG/Ewido would be counted as one.

    I think.

they can be enabled separatly in TrustPort. Enabling both would be like AVG Anti-Malware.

btw, next year Panda will very probably again participate. They changed their opinion yesterday, but that was too late to take part already this year (as there are already too many participants this year). They do not wish to take part in the special test, they prefer to be in the main test. Maybe next year I should really start to ask for an obligatory participation fee :p, so that the number of participants reduces, as we are not able to test more than ~18 products in a timely manner.

Wow! Panda's decision just shows how widely known and respected your tests are. That is great! I think charging a fee is an excellent idea.

seems like this time nearly no one will reach Advanced+..... (and some will not even reach the minimum requirements/level). i thought as all added neraly everything from last test this time many would score high and get A+, but due the many additions of new malware of the last 6 months looks like my prediction was totally wrong. have tested so far only a few, but anyway.

yep, cant wait to see whats going on in the antivirus world of testing :)

still waiting for the next av-test.org, whenever that may be.

ibk, will you also be testing Dr.Web 4.33.3, its due for end of feb release, if not in the test... will you be testing it for a compare?

i know you are probably on here somewhere, lurking in the background :D

bad... that reminds me of IC article posted on your website... more and more dedicated people are needed to work hard 24H in a virus lab to add defs and to improve the scanner. For the last tests NOD32 was adding about 14000 defs before the test... now they've added during a month some old defs but not more then 4-5000 as I've seen, but they've improved the AH instead. :)

Looking forward to the results also. I think they will be very interesting.

will do only if DrWeb asks me to do such a comparison test between the two versions.

The results will be very interesting as the malware landscape has become a playground for obfuscated variants with new versions arriving on a daily basis.

    and out of pure speculation
Avira, Kasperky, BitDefender, Nod, Fortinet and eScan will fail to impress because of false positives.
