You don't need to delete all the partitions. The 100-200MB System Reserved Partition (SRP) contains the boot data. If you have this, then when you install FD-ISR, it will not work properly as the boot data is on some other partition. You have two choices.

    1. If you install Windows from scratch then you need to delete this partition as per Pandlouk instructions and then you will have your boot data automatically on the System Drive.

    2. If the Windows is already installed, then you need to check if you have the SRP. If you do, then you need to first move the boot data to System Drive and then delete the data on it. After that you can delete this partition. In this situation, I will post a link how to accomplish this.

    Best regards,

Hi, am hoping to install Win 7 into an empty snapshot on a Vista64 machine. Am afraid I am not the most computer literate.

If I understand correctly. Since my system has a C (OS), D (Data), and E (FD archives) partitions I need to install something like Paragon partition manager which will allow me to hide the other partitions. Then I simply create the empty snapshot, boot to it. Insert the Win7 disk and reboot, and allow it to install

Why does the install not make the boot sector partiton during this install? Is it because I am not formatting?

Once I have installed Win7 then I need to install 7zip or similar in order to open the appropriate bootsec prog?

That does whatever it needs to do, and then I can install FDISR. Have I missed anything?

    Correct.
You mean the system reserved partition? That partition is only needed if you want to encrypt your OS partition with bitlocker.
No, just run it, it will ask for admin privileges (needed to overwrite the partition boot sector), unarchive itself and execute the command.
Correct after that you just install FD-ISR and you're ready to go.

I met a problem with this for the first time:
I recently upgraded my 128GB SSD to a 512GB SSD.
I did clone the 128SSD to the 512GB SSD.
After that i did expand the 128 SSD on the 512 GB SSD tot 512 GB, with Paragon Harddisk manager 15.
So i could work nice with the two Windows 7 OSes. One for me , one for the kids with games.
But i decided to make a empty snapshot. Gives no problem.
I booted to the empty snapshot en tried to install a naked Windows 7 OS.
Starting goes on, but a couple of screens further, i got the message that windows(or ISR ?? i am not sure) could not make a new partition. I tried several times, without result.
So what could be the cause ?
(Copying a OS gives no problem.)

    Hi Egelie,

can you post some screenshots of the various steps that you take and the error that is displayed?

    Panagiotis,

i will only do this (partly with a photo-camera) , if you can tell me how to go back at the end.

I mean to say: when i do the sequence and boot to the empty boot and do installing the windows 7 64 bit OS and it will again fail, then i have to go back to my orginal two OSes on the 512GB SSD.
That is not possible. I can't choose boot with F1. I am chained to the empty boot.

I met this problem before. To circumnavigate this, i did again copy my orginal 128 SSD drive to the 512 GB SSD drive. (I used the Renkforce SATA dockingstation 2 ports with clone-function for this).

Now is this not possible again, because my 512 SSD drive is expanded with more prgrs and Os copies. So it exceeds far 128 GB.

It can be done easilly with Bootice. You'll have to backup the system's partition PBR (with FD-ISR installed), and restore it if something goes wrong.
    PBR= Partition Boot Record

ps. if you do not feel confident, or do not have a windows live system is better to avoid it. I was just curious about where the error took place since I've never such an error before.

    I have looked to BOOTICEx64_v1.321.exe a while.
It is a windows prgr. Lots of possibilities.
But when i fail to install a new Windows 7 64 bit then i have to go back in the black screen, telling me NTLDR and something else is missing ( so far i remember me)
Then i will go to Booticex64. How ?
For using Bootice, i need a windows prgr.
When trying to install a fresh Windows 7, the install process has loaded partly its files, but when it says it could not install a partitition , i have to go back to a point where i can access Bootice.
Which point ? Then i can not try it. I have to be sure, i am right in my doings.

i did remember me something. So i looked with Spinrite 6.0 in the SSD and saw that there is a gap in the beginning of the SSD of 2048 sectors = 1048576 bytes.
Could that be the cause of the problem, i could not install a fresh Windows 7 ??
Perhaps PBR is on the wrong place ?

    Frits Egelie

p.s. just made copies from MBR an PBR.
When i upload those bin files, can you see in it what is wrong ?

It is just more difficult then I thought.
The problem is, that windowss 7 64 bit must be available, at least a part of it, in such a way , so i can search Bootice.exe and start it. Tried a recovery disk, but that does not help.
It must be like i have for Windows XP, a BART P.E builder for XP, but then for Windows 7 64 bit.

The 2048 sectors gap is normal and is needed for correct alignment of the partitions on hdds with Advanced format and ssds.
Yes, I can take a look at them but doubt that there is something wrong with your MBR or PBR.

The problem is that when you install windows on a snapshot it ovewrites the FD-ISR's PBR with Windows' PBR and that deactivates the FD-ISR preboot screen.

The easiest way to do this is to download Hiren's BootCD http://www.hirensbootcd.org/ (it has BootIce included in it).

Indeed. Then i did make bin files of both MBR and PBR.
Then i did make with First defence a empty boot .
Again made those two bin files and compared with Totalcommander. they where indentical.
But after your explanation , i understand why.

I go doing what you suggested. Thanks!

    Panagiotis,

It is more difficult i thought. The only way is using Mini XP.
So further investigating bootice version 2012.., worked in 32 bit mode, but it does also work in 64 bit mode.
But it will not see my SSD 512 GB drive with Mini XP..
It does make identical copies from MBR and PBR when used with Windows 7 64bit.
Pitty it will not see the SSD drive, when used with Mini Xp.

    p.s. from babylon:

Panagiotis or Panayiotis , "?a?" (all) "ao_Ot??" (holy or saint), is a common male Greek name.
It derives from the Greek epithet Panagia ("All-Holy") for the Virgin Mary, the mother of Jesus.
The feminine form of the name is Panagiota or Panayiota (?a?ao_Ota).
Both share the name day with Maria, Mario, Mary, Despoina and all their diminutives on the Dormition of the Theotokos on 15 August.
There are many diminutives of Panagiotis such as Panos (o_O??), Panagis/Panayis (?a?ao_O), Takis (o_O??), Panikos (?ao_O??, in Cyprus),
while Panagiota is commonly reduced to Giota (G??ta).

    Frits,

I'll test Yumi in a win PE 64bit in mid Jully and I'll upload it for you, if everything is OK.
With all that is happening these last days in Greece is difficult to concentrate in other things that the political/economical news.
(What the economical Elite in Europe does not understand is that Greek people are sick and tired to pay for the mistakes of our corrupted governments, while the Elite that put us in this position remain unpunished and continue to raise their fortunes with the protection and help of their European elitist Friends. And I can guarantee you that at this moment no one in greece knows what the result of the referendum will be. We are forced to choose between a
No = probably a default and "instant death", but with some hope for the new generations
    and a
Yes = a prolonged and extremely painful death, with zero hope for the new generations)

Panagiotis is pronounced as Panayotis (like yogurt).
It is probably the only greek name that has no meaning whatsoever and it is given in honour of Holy Mary (also called Panagia = All-Holly, for the greek orthodox Holy Mary is considered to be holier than anyone and the only mortal that ascended even above the angels)

yes, you have a special name.

It is pitty for the Greece people. ( do you live in Greece?)
It is hopeless. The other countries have loan lots of money at Greece.
When do we get it back. ?
I think never. So when we loan again money, we again do not get it back.
And so on , and so on , and so on.
Indeed, it comes through the corrupted governments.
I think Europe will warranty, we get back the money. And not over 100 years, but i think within 5 or 10 years.
    ******
    what is Yumi ?

Yes, unfortunatly I returned in Greece in 2012 when the crisis was at it's pick.
The loan is a lot more complicated than both the greek and international media present it.
First, Greece should never have entered the EuroZone, but the Greek goverment at the time in accordance with other European goverments at the time had modified the statistics of its finances.
Second the help that they gave in Greece in 2010 was not really a help in Greece but a help to the European Banks (mostly German and French):
    - They made a "haircut" of 50% of Greek depth versus the shares that holded individual entities and other Greek Organizations = The Greek people and the greek pension system lost 50% of it's deposities and the other 50% was actually "confiscated" from the greek goverments from 2010-2014.(to make it economically sustainable)
    - The central bank of Europe bought the greek shares that the European individual banks had, and a large part of that shares was bought at a price of 60% of it's nominal price (from other markets).
    - The loan that was given in Greece is a nominal loan (not 1 euro arrived in Greek economy). Explaining: When Greece has to pay it's only debitor (The Central bank of Europe), the debitor "transfers" the "loan" from one of it's accounts to another account. And actually makes profit since it bought something at 60% percent but gets paid back at full price 100% plus the interests).

All this "help" was not a help of the Greek economy (for not talking about greek people), but was a way to protect the european banks from a Greek Default.
It has cut the Greeks economy in half, made a loan only in paper (I repeat not even 1 euro arrived in Greek deposities), and even though it has small interest less than 2%, in reallity the profits of the other countries (Eurogroup and central bank) are a bit more of 41% and actually Greeks have allready paid back the largest part of the loan (the initial investment in money of the other european people)

Now, that the other european countries have almost being paid back(their initial investment) and their banks are protected and managed to make bigger the depth of Greece, since their demands shorted the Greek economy by 25% instead of the grouth, that they advertise, is time to get rid of the bad country/people to make an example for any other that will dear to question their practices.
And unfortunatly the greatest part in this tragedy/parody was taken not from the other countries, but from the largest part of Greek politicians, giornalists and the Greek Elite that wants to grab the National Greek profitable companies for pinuts.
Example of one privatization in Greece that happend in 2013. The national greek company OPAP (gamble games) has a profit of 300-600 millions per year was sold to a greek elitist for 350 millions and that person took a loan from the greek goverment of 350 millions to buy the company. :ouch::mad:

    Panagiotis,

i have to study all this about the Greece economy. Very difficult, but interesting.

In the mean time i have made a new Iso file named /win 7pe_amd64.
    Burned on CD and tried.
Some things do not work, but the most it worked. ( i haven't followed precisely all the instructions.
So i could use bootice 64 and see my first C: drive.
Made a copy of the MBR and PBR and compared it with total Commander.

PBR uses 16 sectors. Is that enough ?

Now i can really start my exercition.
I do hope it will work after placing back the PBR.

On this moment of writing, that specific computer installs Windows 7 64 bit.

    Unbelievable, that it suceeds now.
Why first not, i don't know. I have tried then several times.

    so i continue the installation.

I succeeded now in the installation of a fresh Windows 7 64 bit with First defence as the only prgr on it.
I have now 305 GB free. and 4 Oses on it.
When there is (big) trouble, i do use the naked Windows 7 64 bit to copy it and build all my prgrs again on it.
Often needed that, then my experience is that some prgrs collide. When i am sure of this, i install them on a other copy of Windows 7 64 bit.

I got the famous GMAIL 04 error.

again, restored the MBR and PBR, but nothing helps.

Is it possible to backup the $ISR parts and then set it back and working ?
