A trick question? He never had a #1 hit.
"Treat Her Right" made it to #2. His other two songs to actually make the Top 40, barely made it - "Just A Little Bit" (39) and "Apple Of My Eye" (32), all in late 1965.

Right you are. It was number one for me! :D

Released as by Roy Head and the Traits, it reached number two. Both there and on the R&B charts.

Never got over the one-hit wonders called (and I'm not making this up): ? And The Mysterians. Anyone over roughly the age of 45 can't get 96 Tears out of his head. It's as embedded in the brain as the theme song from Mr. Ed.

"A horse is a horse, of course, of course...." Grrrrrrrrr!!!

    The lyrics were inspiring!

    96 Tears
    ? and The Mysterians

Too many teardrops for one heart to be cryin'
Too many teardrops for one heart to carry on
    You're way on top now
    Since you left me
    You're always laughin'
    Way down at me
    But watch out now
    I'm gonna get there
    We'll be together
    For just a little while
And then I'm gonna put you
    Way down here
    And you'll start cryin'
    Ninety-six tears
    Cry
    Cry

And when the sun comes up
    I'll be on top
    You'll be way down there
    Lookin' up
    And I might wave
    Come up here
    But I don't see you
    Wavin' now
    I'm way down here
    Wonderin' how
    I'm gonna get you
    But I know now
I'll just cry, cry, I'll just cry

Too many teardrops for one heart to be cryin'
Too many teardrops for one heart
    To carry on
    You're gonna cry ninety-six tears
    You're gonna cry ninety-six tears
You're gonna cry cry, cry, cry, now
You're gonna cry cry, cry, cry
Ninety-six tears c'mon and lemme hear you cry, now
Ninety-six tears (whoo!) I wanna hear you cry
Night and day, yeah, all night long
    Uh-ninety-six tears cry cry cry
C'mon baby, let me hear you cry now, all night long
    Uh-ninety-six tears! Yeah! C'mon now
    Uh-ninety-six tears!

You bes' believe dat, sha! A (local-ish) band out of Lake Charles, LA (Only a 60 minute drive from here).
The two most popular were "Matilda" and "Got You On My Mind," with "Matilda" taking top honors, I believe.
"Matilda" is still one of my favorites, and still a favorite (and not just by us old-timers) in this neck of the woods (southeast Texas and southwest Louisiana).

    Hey Dak,

I was about 30 years ago in Beaumont on what I think was a strawberry festival. Is that fest. still there?

    That's Zydeco, isn't it?
Depends on the version. If you mean the original from the '40s it was "Doc" somebody and someone else...I'd have to look that up.
Then there was Rod Bernard in the early '60s and Lucille Starr in the mid '60s. I assume you're asking about one of their versions. The specific years I'd have to look up. If you'd asked 20 or 30 years ago I probably could have told you.

Thirty years ago I was in the Navy so I wasn't actually here but once a year on leave, but I can't remember any Strawberry Festivals at all. But that doesn't mean there wasn't one. There are festivals for just about everything else around here, except kumquats, I don't remember or know of a Kumquat Festival either. Maybe I should start one....

Name any 4 of the 6 members of Buffalo Springfield, some of whom went on to spectacular careers in other bands, in duos & as solo artists. Springfield's recording of For What It's Worth became the defining anthem of the 60s.

A geezer rating of @ least 9 on a 10-pt scale may be required to answer this one....
