    yes, thanks for re-test Clonezilla.

btw, would be nice to know which on the list are free and work from outside of Windows?

I think all of them could be put on a PE environment (Clonezilla has its own Linux environment). Drive Snapshot needs a third party PE.

thanks, i havent worked with PE environment before, not too sure what it is. YUMI and before that XBOOT were pretty easy.

simply put, it's a miniaturized bootable Windows OS, only ~200MB in size, the disk imaging software can be run in that mini Windows OS.

Brian, do you mind doing a test for EASSOS system restore v2? It has pretty good reviews on quite a few websites. This is the same company that makes the legendary PartitionGuru software.

    http://www.eassos.com/eassos-system-restore.php

Edit: would be great you could also test the backup/restore from its recovery media. One potential problem I see is that one a UEFI secure boot Windows 8.1 drive, the backup option only has EFI partition+C:\ partition, without mentioning the other two partitions (recovery+MSR). If you have such a system to test that would be great.

    oliverjia,

I installed the software in a Win8.1 UEFI system and made a backup. I doubt the MSR or Recovery partition were included in the backup. I tried two different UFD (FAT and FAT32) but the software wouldn't make a USB bootable disk. It just kept reverting to the Buy Now screen.

PartitonGuru software has been solid in partitioning, data recovery, partition recovery. But when it comes to System (OS) disk/partition backup/image, it did not pass Brian's test. So use it for what it's good for.

Sorry my last post is misleading. The one Brian tested was actually EASSOS System Restore, a dedicated disk/partition backup/restore software by the same company. He has not tested PartitionGuru for partiton/disk imaging.

EASSOS System Restore v2.0.1.382 fails the test.

It only images 2 out of the 4 partitions and won't restore them to a new, empty HD.

    Hello Brian K,

Is the Macrium Reflect 6 in the Successful list one of the paid versions? Or, maybe a better way to ask my question-- do you know if the Macrium Reflect 6 free version can restore an image to a new, empty HD?

(Sorry if this answer is contained elsewhere in this thread-- I searched but did not see anything.)

    Thanks.

The RESTORE portion of Macrium FREE is exactly the same as the PAID version... what's missing are (2) features, Rapid Data Restore and TRIMming SSDs upon the restore operation. It works just like Macrium v5 FREE in that respect.

Agreed. Brian already tested Macrium Reflect and it was a success. Free or not does not really matter in this scenario.
