"Facebook plans to shut down its facial recognition program amid growing concerns from users and regulators

Meta, the company formerly known as Facebook, on Tuesday announced that it will be putting an end to its face recognition system.

The company said it will delete more than 1 billion people’s individual facial recognition templates as a result of this change.

Facebook services that rely on the face recognition systems will be removed over the coming weeks, Meta said..."

"Texas Sues Meta Over Facebook's Facial-Recognition Practices...

State says social-media giant violated privacy protections in lawsuit, seeks hundreds of billions of dollars in civil penalties...

The Texas attorney general filed a suit against Facebook parent Meta Platforms Inc. on Monday, charging that the social-media giant’s longstanding and now discontinued use of facial-recognition technology violated that state’s privacy protections for personal biometric data...

Mr. Paxton [Texas AG] said the company’s capture of facial geometry in photographs that users uploaded from 2010 to late last year resulted in 'tens of millions of violations' of Texas law...Texas law has prohibited such harvesting without informed consent for over 20 years..."

"Facial recognition firm Clearview AI tells investors it’s seeking massive expansion beyond law enforcement

The facial recognition company Clearview AI is telling investors it is on track to have 100 billion facial photos in its database within a year, enough to ensure 'almost everyone in the world will be identifiable'...Those images — equivalent to 14 photos for each of the 7 billion people on Earth...

The company wants to expand beyond scanning faces for the police, saying in the presentation that it could monitor “gig economy” workers and is researching a number of new technologies that could identify someone based on how they walk, detect their location from a photo or scan their fingerprints from afar..."

So far as I can determine, wearing a surgical mask, sunglasses and baseball cap defeats the facial recognition software. What is more troubling to me is the crapola able to ID you from body movements, such as walking gait.
