Facial recognition is here to stay. And we should all probably accept it

I still like the idea of forward air support. That is, a bunch of small self-piloting drones, that cloud around you, preferentially ahead of where you're going. Each drone has a relatively powerful IR laser, and a system that targets small lenses. And maybe does face and animal recognition too. Don't want to be blinding people and animals, just cameras. Obviously need to offload data-processing to substantial hardware.

I mean, I'm sure that's what the military are planning :)

Sure, 99% accuracy sounds great. But think about it. If you're looking for something with 1% or less prevalence, over half of your positives will be false. And for something where prevalence is arguably far under 1%, such as terrorists, almost 100% of positives will be false.

The future for us is we will all live like little weebel people being controlled from the elite from the comfort of their homes. With the coming 5g network all of our lives will be watched and from what I hear quite possibly our minds can be read since 5g uses the same frequencies as our bodies do.

They won't bother. This runaway freight train has been going for so long now everyone's conditioned to accept the next gross invasion of privacy without batting an eye.

Actually "99% accuracy rate" explains nothing. In this tech, there're some diff accuracy rates: true/false accept rate, true/false reject rate, and false identification rate. So 99% for which? Maybe both of TAR & TRR? Then there's more impo problem.
These rates totally depends on size of registered faces in DB. Achieving 99% for n = 100 will be easy, but it become exponentially harder as n increases. So the question is in what n they achieved 99%.
