I don't see what is new after reading the article linked above. I have been using U2F for years now on Facebook. One thing Facebook mentioned is the dreaded lockout because someone loses their Yubikey (or similar stick) and without it they have NO access. That is true, except that Yubi's are now super cheap and Facebook lets you setup/authorize multiple keys for your account. Just leave one at home in a safe place and only use that specific stick in an emergency. I use 5 including NFC enabled for mobile applications. Solid security.
