That's funny. Just so bloody funny.

It's rather the obverse of Tor. Anonymity for no one, vs anonymity for everyone. Including cops, because consistency is gennerally considered to be a virtue. Also because administering exceptions would be too much work ;)

What's the point of facebook having a tor address, and then not allowing people to use fake names? Doesn't that defeat the purpose?

That's the point alright. Fb demanding adherence to their TOS for ALL or Disconnect/Delete just shows the level of control that social platform commands.

The irony is when they get binged themselves by hackers like was just reported today for one example. Hard stuff for some of us to wrap our head around. It's still wide open and vulnerable no matter the terms.

Tor isn't just for anonymity. Like VPNs, it encrypts traffic and proxies connections, so local observers can't see what you're doing, or where you're doing it. Also, it hides your location from Facebook. And Facebook really doesn't want anonymous users. Ideologically because it's less honest and sharing, and encourages bad behavior. And financially, because anonymous cowards generally aren't profitable for advertisers.

Why do you consider yourself an "anonymous coward"? :) Anonymous yes, but coward...? ;)

I think it is good policy. LE doesn't need to have FB account to obtain some information via search warrant.

Sure, they and millions of spammers and con artists will keep their "fake" accounts.

What's cool is that Facebook clarified their policy.

I find it ironic that Facebook tell the police to stop using fake accounts were there are tens of thousand of non police fake accounts that Facebook does nothing about.
