I think people are not at all stupid, but they are lazy and manage to bury inconvenient things, and get lured by the "free" strokes they get. I've had this precise conversation IRL with people, where I am iconoclastic about refusing to interact with them on any FB platforms, including whatsapp. They look at me as if I'm nuts or an extremist. Me? I'm a guy who ran a business, and have some ethical principles; and I do not transact with scummy companies.
