I've been editing plain text lua/xml script files for a game with Notepad. I've mostly been opening the files in Explorer with right click -> open with -> notepad. Sometimes when I close Notepad my entire Explorer shell crashes and restarts for no apparent reason. It took me over a week and a complete reinstall to come up with this... little. It doesn't matter if I do anything or not in Notepad for it to crash. What does matter is if ProcessGuard is enabled. With ProcessGuard disabled, or the files associated and directly opened with Notepad, the crashes don't happen. The crashes are so random it took me awhile to find any pattern. I use W2K SP4 and explorer.exe has the default ProcessGuard settings. Has anyone else experienced something like this?
Not with Process Guard, but I did have explorer crashes with A2's context menu scan enabled. I'm on XP Home, but I know it happens with W98SE as well. Just for the purpose of elimination, do you have A2 free installed?
