I was an Ewido user and very happy with it.
I became an AVG user and was not so happy
with AVG. Though i had an unlimited lifetime
license i no longer have any AVG product
    on any computer i own.

I suspect Paul and Mike are looking
into this mess ( as they did with DCS )
and will do what they feel is appropriate.

    1) Updates are definitely being provided for the Ewido database at least for AVG Anti-Malware.
    2) Grisoft's products still offer extremely good value for money. Though of course I agree that former Ewido users have been given a raw deal.
    3) From what I've fished around the Ewido staff is not fired (at least not all of them anyway), as some of you may think. :)
    4) Development of Ewido will continue....
    5) I noticed on Vinzenz Feenstra's blog that he works for "Antimalware development A.S" (A division of Grisoft) and not for Ewido networks. That probably means a reorganization, renaming and maybe a new focus. :doubt:

So where does that leave us AVG AS users, vulnerable for infection?

We were told on this forum that AVG Anti-Malware was being phased out.Now it's the other way around?:thumbd:

Actually I never read that AVG Anti-Malware was being "phased out". More like it was the PRO version that was likely to be phased out. Now I do not know what is going on there at Grisoft. :doubt: o_O

I have been one who was not surprised that there was a change to what I thought was "lifetime." Frankly, it still was a cheap total price for the years of use. That does not make everything OK, but I have learned to "roll with the punch."
Everyone can vote with their wallets.

When I got the email listing the options I chose the AVGAS. However, about a week ago I decided that I might be able to better use the anti-malware application. Accordingly I have emailed AVG and requested that they change my application to AVGAM. I have not heard, and may not, but we'll see. If I don't hear or if they do not permit a change, then I will continue to "roll."

I have read some rumor that the anti-malware program will be discontinued so who knows where I'll end up. A lot of people have used AVG free for years with satisfactory results, and I give AVG some credit for providing the free version, as do Avast, and Avira.

Anyway I am interested in seeing if I can change my lifetime license.
    Are we having fun yet?

    Regards,
    Jerry

Where did you read this rumour? It simply does not make sense for AVG Anti-Malware to be discontinued. But of course it makes sense if AVG Pro is given all the capabilities of AVG Anti-Malware, thus making it essentially the same product as AVG Anti-Malware. If possible, show me some links about this rumour. :)

    Hi Firecat,
Not sure, but I guess the same place that blueoysterdvp read it. It did not seem to make sense to me since it had such good detection rates on AVC.o_O
It may have been one person who somehow got the idea, and how rumors fly.:D
Whoever stated it may have mixed it up with the Pro version, and that makes sense to me.

Anyway, I hope it is not discontinued, and maybe that they will allow me to switch.:doubt:

    Regards,
    Jerry

Hi ... What I have learn from the past was never to buy any anti-whatever software and just use all the free ones instead , I have never had a problem yet with my comp , If they are going to create free softwares ? Then use them , Also if you like a product and want to donate something to the created ? Then do so

The downside of using the free versions is that it won't run in real time, if that's what the paid version does. I paid for my AVG (ewido). It just ran out after a year and they charged me $14.98 for a renewal. :)

    Hi All,
I don't fly by the Ewido threads much, but did when I was puzzled by the title dropped on in and read from July to my post.

I am truely sorry for all of you who have clearly gotten false promises. Further more I don't understand the lack of a response to your questions either. It does speak volumes. Either the answer would be so bad that they are running for the tall grass or the silence is, 'yes you are screwed'. :ouch:

This has damaged AVG reputation, with me. This is exactly one of the reasons I fly in very often and check the Wilders.

What Security Software can you trust? Check the Wilders forums there is more to Security Software then prevention, detection and cleaning...it's called Service and the best way to find out about that is word of mouth. Warranty and promises are just words until there is action to back them up.

I agree, room should be made here for something else. Ewido Support seems to have evaporated. At least to the important issues and questions raised in this thread. Sorry guys. :(

Peter and Karl from Ewido did answer other questions today... but no word whatsoever here. A shame.

The problem is that the decision has already been made, and lots of customers have taken up the "generosity" of Grisoft. Issuing a recall of the entire thing and saying that it was a wrong decision would make people think it was a joke and damage Grisoft's reputation as a business, maybe among investors as well. Hence a decision made cannot really be reversed, no matter how wrong or right it was.

Hence, I am guessing Peter and Karl and others at Ewido just want to continue their business and forget this whole deal. :)

You can't blame our (former) Ewido friends personally: new boss, different name, new rules.

    I don't, i can and do blame AVG/Grisoft. That
is why i will no longer have any of their products
( even free versions ) on any on my computers.
