I've been monitoring this file for a while now, and I always thought one entry to by a typo, and that they actually meant google-analytics.com.

Today I decided to search for the domain mentioned in the list, and according to URL Void, it does exist. :D

But, nowhere in the list there's any domain name to block Google Analytics. So, is it a typo or just a coincidence. If a coincidence, then why not blocking Google Analytics? o_O :argh:

The main Easylist list has no Google Analytics entry, from what I could see. So... a typo... or what? :D

Never heard of Google Analilycs before lol. But yeah must just be coincidence. EasyPrivacy doesn't block Google Analytics because they (the list makers) say it can break too many websites, although I've never had a problem whilst blocking it.

Fanboy's Enhanced Tracking List blocks it but his standard tracking list doesn't for the same reasons. It's also why NoScript uses surragate scripts for things like this. This is why I use Fanboy's Ultimate List, it includes the Main Adblock List, Tracking List, Enhanced Trackers List and Annoyances List.

You won't get it with the EasyList/EasyPrivacy lists unless you add it yourself. ||google-analytics.com^

EDIT: lol, going here hxxp://www.google-analilycs.com takes you here hxxp://http://www.google.com/analytics o_O

Well, I've had. Not many sites, but there are some.

Exactly - that's another awesome feature of Noscript.

Will anyone please list some sites that "break" when google-analytics is blocked? I haven't come across any.

I've heard Google+ but I don't know first hand because I don't use it. You can read this thread here from 2009 where they list some sites and explain why they removed it from EasyPrivacy: http://forums.lanik.us/viewtopic.php?t=5257.

I'd say use the Fanboy lists over the Easy Lists, does a better job, look at this graph here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/37533397/tracking_the_trackers/tpl_study/results_graph.png taken from here: http://cyberlaw.stanford.edu/node/6730 and that's without the Enhanced list, the one that includes Google Analytics and other supposed problem trackers.

We need to add this rule in easyprivacy : ||google-analytics.com^$third-party or this one : ||google-analytics.com/ga.js$ ?
    Or both ?

    Thanks.

At what point does the problem appear? (I've never used ebay and don't have an account.)
Does it break for you if you block GA using a hosts file (and not AdBlock Plus or NoScript)?

    The sub-menues wouldn't open.

    Sorry, I've never tried that.

Tlu, have you ever tried Karma Blocker? Just for the heck of it?
The add-ons home page has this which maybe related to what's being discussed:
If you do try it, I'd appreciate your feedback since the creator of the add-on seems the strong, silent type ... you want to use my add-on, use it; don't bother me ;)

No, I haven't and I probably won't since I'm happy with ABP particularly in combination with Noscript. Recently I've even added RequestPolicy (again) although I'm still desperately waiting for some announced improvements (like a blacklist).
