I tried a search, but i really didn't find anything that I thought was the same...

Anyway, the problem: today i noticed that ESSv4 says that Web Access Protection is non-functional, I can't turn it on. Rebooting does not work either.

ESS v4.0.314.0 According to About box.

Attached screenshot - also note that you repeat yourself 3 times in the helpfile about Web Access Protection but don't really say much about what the feature does.

And I wish to apologise if this has been said before, I didn't find it...

I suggest you try reinstalling and select the Repair option. Then restart your PC and run an update.

myea, thought has occured to me, but nontheless: the helpfile on the subject says nothing, perhaps a change would be in order.

And having to repair out-of-the-blue is somewhat strange, but I'm willing to keep an open mind.

Teazle: Is your Drive C: a Dynamic drive?

I got the problem you describe after converting my harddrive to a dynamic disk to enable windows logical drive management.
