What are the risks of sending encrypted data over an unsecured connection?

    Hello,
Risks to whom? In what way?
Do you mean can someone intercept the encrypted data?

Let me put it another way.... Is encrypted data at risk if it is sent over an unsecured connection?

The obvious answer to that is "...it depends on the encryption.."

However, let us assume that the data is encrypted using a good quality encryption engine (not military strength), just a good commercial encryption tool.

Is this data 100% safe. Or are there some risks and can those risks be quantified so that an accurate risk assessment can be constructed :doubt:

Surely encrypted data sent in the clear is as secure as plain data sent over an encrypted connection? It's of no value to anyone since it's encrypted and therefore unreadable.

I think there's general agreement among us that there's no such thing as 100% security. Even a military-level encryption could eventually be broken, given powerful enough computer resources (and maybe enough time), but it's probably a fair statement that the ability to break any good encryption is beyond the resources available to nearly any user, so you can accept that good encryption is for all practical purposes 100% safe.
