I don't use them. I prefer to install Avira as on-demand to clean PCs

You could just do this :)

EEK covers a wider variety of threats, while MBAM also does a good job but is more focused on new threats. :D

    Re: Emsisoft or MBAM

I have used both, and ended up removing Ems and keeping MBAM.

Ems is just a big bloated potato and annoyingly keeps downloading 60M+ updates regularly.

Yes if you want it to do so :)
But you can disable the RT engine.

    60m updates? =O
Where did that come from xD
Usually they are 150k to 1mb updates depending on how much time you have not updated. Maybe EEK is different? :)

Now that you folks mention the updates size, has anyone else experienced MBAM definition updates increase these late days each day? It used to be something like 5,59MB and last time I updated like 2 days ago it was 6,01 and today is 6,03. It has been 5,59 for a very long time.

By the way, didn't MBAM use to update missing definitions, rather than re-downloading the full thing?

I just updated after 7 days (hush, I know, but it's on-demand and hell I can't keep up with this stuff all the time), and it was 6.03. So if you're getting 6.03 after 2 and me after 7, maybe it is downloading the whole thing, which wouldn't make any sense.

I update EEK every day and it's only 150k to 1mb as Noob wrote
About once a week I get a slightly bigger update of up to 5mb that requires a restart of EEK
If you don't update for about 5 days then EEK will install the db fresh so that would be at least 60MB I guess

It usually takes longer for EEK to launch (from a flashdrive) than for the update to download. SecuniaPSI still holds the record for slow launching but EEK is a close second ;)

So it's EEK for me, sitting on a flashdrive ready and willing to scan any PC :thumb:

I have both for on-demand scanning. It should read:
Emsisof Emegency Kit Scanner AND MBAM (On Demand only)

    Ice

Well, it's now on 6.23 MB! In a few months/1 year we'll be downloading near 100 MB o_O WTH?

If I see it increasing too much (MBAM team needs to work on this, that's for sure), I'll simply ditch it... I rarely use it, anyway. But, I highly doubt people will be willing to download hundreds of MBs just to update an antimalware application. :D

Doubt that's going to happen, because Malwarebytes' will remove old and limited entries as always.

Still, I don't understand why they would make it download the whole database every time. There isn't any benefits for anyone that I can see.
