Yesterday I wiped XP and Hardy from my dual-boot set-up. Placed Hardy on the
faster Raptor drive (prev. XP's home) using Remastersys restore. What a
pleasure, in 15 minutes or so I had everything 'hunky-dory' and Bob is my
    uncle.
Now there are a few .eml files I had saved in XP (copied to Hardy) that I am
unable to view in Ubuntu unless they are plain text in which case I can see
what they contain with gedit. Evolution doesn't do them.
Is there some plug-in or can anybody tell me if it's at all possible without
    going to extremes ?

Regards from a windowless home. :argh:

Didn't find a way to do this in Kmail other than importing the entire OE mailbox. Obviously you can't do that anymore. But if you install Thunderbird, it will allow you to Open Saved Messages. That will open .eml messages.

It would help if you could point me out as to what .eml files are :)

They are the format that is used when saving individual emails in OE. As in when you click Save to File.

Thanks. Unfortunately no clean and easy solution for .eml files.
Fortunately I had printed the important ones. Gedit will show the
plain text ones but if there is html embedded it's gibberish.

    Ocky,

I'm not sure why it shouldn't work with Kmail?

For Thunderbird, you can try this extension.

You don't need an extension in TB. Just click Open Saved Message.

Apparently, kmail expects you to have saved your message boxes to .pst files. It will import those but won't open individual .eml files.

Yes, I have just downloaded Thunderbird and have no problem opening saved
.eml messages from within Thunderbird (and forwarding them).
Great - minor problem solved, thanks lewmur and tlu.

PS. Have you tried kshowmail ? I use it to check the mail on the server
before downloading it - thus avoiding any rubbish I don't want. You can
also view the headers and complete message in plain text.

Sounds like Mailwasher. There is no KDE4 version yet, though.
