I have a computer that has Comcast Cable as ISP. MS Outlook and MS Outlook express are properly configured. The email is available on the Comcast Internet website for receiving and for sending. When I attempt to send or receive email on the computer, either Outlook or Oulook Express, it fails and gets an error message. Operating system is MS XP Home. Computer is a nearly new Compaq. The problem occurs with the firewall (McAfee) being disabled. Comcast tech indicates the problem is not with Comcast, and that the Pop3 & SMTP are cofigured correctly.

Any help would be most appreciated!! :) o_O

Hi Newdogdad. By properly configured I assume you called Comcast Tech Support and went over your Outlook Express settings step by step. Just wanted to say when I first set up my XP Home edition I had a similar problem. Outlook and Outlook Express are two separate and unrelated programs. I paid a tech to come over and we finally unloaded Outlook altogether (since I didn't use those features) and Outlook Express started working right. Can't say what the conflict was, but first wait to hear from the many knowledgeable members here.

    Cheers, Rickster

    Hi newdogdad,

First try to remove SaveNow aka WhenUSave aka Save! in Add/Remove software. Either way continue with what's below.

Then check the items listed below in HijackThis, close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Use Custom Search URL =
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WhenUSave] C:\Program Files\Save\Save.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [tgcmd] "C:\Program Files\Support.com\bin\tgcmd.exe" /server

Reboot after doing so and remove:
    C:\Program Files\Save <entire folder if still present.

One reason I could imagine is that Comcast forgot to tell you their Transition Wizard (if this applies to you) made some changes that may require changing the settings in your firewall.
Since I'm not exactly aware of the changes made, you would probably have to call them again.

    Regards,

    Pieter
