I don't know why it would be referred to as Windows 7? From my estimation, shouldn't it be Windows 9?

    Windows 3.11
    Windows 95 (windows 4)
    Windows 98 (windows 5)
    Windows 2000/ME (windows 6)
    Windows XP (windows 7)
    Windows Vista (windows 8 )

But then, of course, some of the OS releases were not really that much different from the previous version. :doubt:

Windows 95 and 98 count as windows 4.
Windows 2000 and XP count as windows 5.
Windows Vista counts as windows 6.

Each group used a different system structure.

Eg. Vista has a "Users" directory and XP/2000 use a "Documents and Settings" directory

Vista is the 6th release of the NT kernel, so 7 makes sense as a name for the next Windows version.

It doesn't because I doubt the kernel will be updated to version 7 for the next version, seeing that current reports say it will be mostly an optimization and improvement of Vista.....
