You are welcome, and remember: take all the time that the evaluation downloads of these programs offer you.

I don't think so ...when I tried to install RestoreIT several months ago, it detected that Acronis True Image was installed on my system and told me ATI had to be removed before I could continue the RestoreIT installation! :thumbd:

As I was unwilling to part with ATI (my proven disaster recovery solution), I cancelled the RestoreIT installation.

Hmm, I'm so used to creating images after booting from a CD. I didn't think of what you mention, PV.

Hi wilbertnl, just want to ask, HDS Clone supports external USB HD SATA?

    Aigle,
I'm not sure about HDS Clone, but ayGhost 2.0 does.
Maybe it depends on your system, if the BIOS can see the hardware, then DOS/ayGhost can too.

It would appear that AYGhost is no longer free, now costs US$100

Quite expensive for just a basic image backup software.

I agree. I think thats a marketing decision since they know nothing else works with EAZ-FIX. I wish them well with it.

I had the same thoughts. Half the price would be more reasonable, since it has only the basic functions. I have a hard time not to think of blackmailing. :)

There are other options. I use Drive Snapshot with EAZ-Fix/Rollback and that retains all of the snapshots and works well for me.

Only problem with sector by sector, and it is a big, one is that it images the whole disk. I currently have 25gig in use on a 500gig drive. That is no solution.

Also for all the reasons I've brought up before Drive Snapshot is also a none solution for me.

That is exactly why I have a partition for the system disk and a data disk - and a separate physical disk for backup

True a bigger image but compared to yours small

I only use one copy of rollback now - I still prefer first defence on my 2 main systems. I likethe separate snapshots that are like a multi boot system

I was just pointing out that Ayghost was not the only imaging solution for Eaz-Fix/Rollback. I should also point out that Drive Snapshot does not achieve this by having to carry out a sector copy of the whole drive.

I have a 20GB C partition, of which 9GB is used. The Drive Snapshot image of that partition is just under 6GB and all of the Eaz-Fix/Rollback snapshots are available as per my post here.

How many snapshots have you installed, Peter?
I have 12 snapshots in less than 8 GB. :D
I decided to use a smaller system partition, currently 15 GB, I bet that makes any disk image solution more reasonable.

I just have one snapshot installed. It's my safety net. Anything else that I don't use as often is archived off disk. For exampled I have an archive that has the MS Office 2007 in a separate off disk archive.

My imaging and restore times with IFD/IFW are reasonable. I am also looking seriously at Shadow Protect, as it is almost twice as fast, and has some reallly awesome features to boot.

Only issue for me, and they are working feverishly on it, is getting the Nvidia Raid drivers my system uses to work in the CD Recovery Environment. Once they crack that nut, I am going to dust off my credit card. I really like what I've seen so far. Of course I've not been able to do a restore, but I will test that once the recovery issue is solved.

    Hurry up Pete!

Somehow I'm getting the feeling that those nano seconds performance increase are not worth all your frustration.

No frustration, and it isn't nanoseconds. It cuts my imaging time in half. Plus there are some really neat features, like being able to add files to an image without reimaging. Also combining full image with increments, and splitting the image file up. Worth the wait to me.
