Electronic Arts' subscription services across all platforms are getting a rework, with the mega-publisher today announcing that Origin Access and EA Access services will soon be taking the name EA Play, and receiving some new perks on top of current offerings. The PC exclusive Origin Access Premier service will take the name EA Play Pro.

The change is set to occur on August 18. Regarding the name change, EA said that "moving all the benefits to a single brand is an important step in streamlining our services to ensure that being an EA Play member is the best way to play."
On top of current benefits members already enjoy such as access to the large library of titles, 10% discount, and early access to upcoming entries, EA Play will introduce exclusive in-game challenges and rewards for players as well as member-exclusive content.

The Steam version of the subscription is coming online very soon, and the EA Access wording on the new subscription should get some changes applied to it before long.

After a delay, EA Play, the subscription service formerly known as EA Access, will be available on Steam starting August 31st. The platform allows you to play Electronic Arts' back catalog of titles as much as you want and check out its newest games before buying them. It also includes discounts on downloadable content.

EA also offers a Pro version of the service through its Origin PC launcher, which allows you to play the deluxe versions of its newest games — no need to buy them separately. EA Play Pro costs $15 per month or $100 annually. If you fancy yourself more of a console player, you can also access EA Play on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Electronic Arts' newly rebranded game subscription service EA Play is now available on Steam, coming online on the platform close to a year after the company announced its intentions. For $4.99 a month or $29.99 a year, Steam users can now subscribe to the service and gain access to almost every EA game available on Steam, alongside several other perks.

Subscribers also gain a 10% discount on EA items available on Steam, 10-hour trials for new games from the publisher, and some exclusive in-game rewards for currently supported titles.

Formerly known as EA Access, the EA Play label now spans across PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.

Microsoft announced on Wednesday that it would begin adding EA Play to Xbox Game Pass at no extra charge. EA's subscription service will be rolled into Game Pass for PC for $5 per month and the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate bundle for $15 per month. That means extra value without a price bump.

Streamlining efforts at EA recently combined EA Access and Origin Access services under a new branding umbrella called EA Play. It includes access to member-only content, challenges, rewards, discounts, exclusive timed demos, and over 60 EA games. Some of the titles included in EA Play will also be available on Microsoft's cloud gaming service.

It's been a big summer for all things EA Access -- or, as we should say now, EA Play.

The rebranding, from EA Access and Origin Access Basic to EA Play, happened back in August. It was followed up a few weeks later with EA Play launching on Steam [...]

But this isn't the end. Today, EA has yet another piece of interconnected news to share: it's rebranding its Origin desktop app to simply be called the EA desktop app, alongside giving its PC platform a visual refresh.
The rebranding itself, Blank says, ties in with a broader company strategy that EA has been executing visibly the last several months with all its aforementioned branding and EA Play-connected changes.

It was almost two years ago when Electronic Arts unveiled its brand-new launcher for PC gamers, the EA app. Back then, the company said the new desktop application would ultimately replace its classic Origin client that has been delivering EA games for over a decade, and the time is almost here.

The EA app has now left its open beta tag behind, with EA deeming it ready for prime time. The company didn't give a timeframe as to when will Origin go away for good, only saying current users will be invited to make the move soon. All games, saves, and friends lists will be transferred automatically.

"The EA app is our fastest and lightest PC client to date. With the new streamlined design you will easily find the games and content you’re looking for and discover your new favorite games," said the company in a blog post. "With automatic game downloads and background updates you can ensure that your games are ready to play when you are."

However, the Origin client will remain active for MacOS players, with the new EA app only being available on Windows.

I have to say that these video gaming platforms have ruined the fun in PC gaming. It's ridiculous that you now have to use them in order to download video games or even demo's.
