    Hello farmerlee.

Too much? Nero 7 is the mother of all hogs. And it's not just the hog acpect of Nero that is repulsive. That slew of utilities that Nero is integrating in their 200Mb package are of no much use, except some basic audio and video features, like cutting and pasting mainly :p . You have far far better FREEWARE alternatives to convert, edit or play audio and video. And that friggin' cover editor. Who uses that thing anyway?
Haven't tried it, but Roxio's package seems to be of very similar value, as those two companies seems to have a little war on who will bloat its suite more with useless cr@p. :D :D

    I use CyberLink's PowerDVD(pre-installed) & Power2Go(freebie) for CD's. Had Nero(also pre-installed) but didn't like the "bloat" of it!!!

Indeed, I use it all the time for movies, which is always a full DVD and it verifies the burning. Mrkvonic burned hundreds with it.

ImageBurn. Very fast, never a problem.
Sonic RecordNow for encoding avi's, etc., to DVD. I just tried Nero for the first time and it took approximately forever compared to Sonic. But Nero, at least, has encoding/decoding options for many other things that Sonic lacks.
    And DVD Shrink.

    - DeepBurner for most common tasks.
    - MagicIso for bootable CDs and DVDs, although it took some time for me to figure out, how this program works o_O
    - My DVD burner comes with an OEM Package of Cyberlink, which fails always when it comes to important tasks. Consequently, i don't use it.
    - CloneDVD sometimes.
    - Easy CD Creator 4.02 on my old Notebook. Capable of copying Audio CDs in the original *.cda format, if the CD isn't protected against copying. Glad to have this program, as it seems, most burning software nowadays use only .wma or .mp3 format for audio CDs backup. :doubt:

I use Nero 6. It does everything I need, so I don't see a reason to upgrade.

    1. DVDFab Platinum ...Excellent
    2. Ultra ISO ...Nice
    3. CDBurner XP V4 ...For Free, Excellent(Only the ver.4 update works w/Vista)
    4. DVD Santa ...Also pretty good

I used to use Nero and I really like it, but it tends to crash when trying to enter the advanced mode from the start menu. Not just for me but for others that I've talk to also. I will probably eventually re-install it anyway.

I just tried DVDfab Platinum to backup a couple of my DVD movies and on 3 different movies it seemed to be working well until the end when it started 'thrashing' while (what I imagine was) trying to finalize my DVDs! Result: 3 DVD coasters. :doubt:

I don't know about 'excellent', but compared to CDs they are 'expensive' coasters! ;)

Yes sometimes certain softwares don't like your system at all.
I use CDBurnerXP Pro all the time and never had any of your problems.
The only thing that doesn't work very well on CDBurnerXP are ISO burnings. It burns them, but the final result doesn't act like the original one. I use Alcohol120% for that purpose.
