On a Vista system using Windows Mail, I noticed that ESet NOD32 seems to create duplicate .eml files for every mail message scanned (sent or received). It places these files in:

    C:\Users\<profile>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail

They never seem to go away - taking up a lot of space over time. Is this normal. I searched high and low for other people having this problem with no luck. I'm using the latest version 3.0.672.0.

Deleting these extra files seems harmless.

    Hello,

Do you have any other applications also scanning the email? Another AV or a Spam filter maybe?

    Thank you,
    BFG

Hi-no, this is not normal behavior. Try setting ESET NOD32 to maximum email compatibility:

    1. Press F5 from the main program window.

    2. From the Advanced setup tree, click 'Antivirus and antispyware' -> 'Email protection' -> 'POP3' -> 'Compatibility'

    3. Move the slider to 'Maximum compatibility' (all the way to the left).

Let us know if that helps...

Compatability is set to max already.
No other programs scanning my email.

I'm pretty sure its NOD32 because when I disable mail protection, the duplicate files are no longer created. Turn it back on, and they are. I'm working with ESet support on this. Will post a solution when I find one.

Did you have an older version of EAV installed before v. 3.0.672? If so, did you perform a clean install or you installed it over the older version?
