    trjam,

I just tested PrevX (CSI) using the 10 Viruses in my first Virus Shodown Video and it didn't detect any of them  AVG detected 8 of them!! I will post the video in next weeks installment on YouTube.

I didn't mean to cause any issues it's just when I saw you're post I thought "hey lets try PrevX". The result was a real shock for me also I had to run it 3 times to check I wasn't dreaming o_O

Did you "install" the viruses? CSI sees only active ones.

    ako,

I firstly scanned the drive with the 10 viruses sitting happily in a folder and they were not detected. I then decided to run all of them and only 1 was found. I can only assume CSI found no evidence at the crime scene and the murderers got away to commit another crime ;)

    interact,

On the youtube video when DS stops the virus is it the standard allow or block message OR does it say it's a nasty.

That is, does it give guidance to the amateur user?

    I can't make it out.

    thanks,
    Ian

    Iangh,

Yes - Drivesentry pop-up displays "Critical Risk" on 9 of them and "Major Risk" on 1 of them. If you then hover over the pop-up warning it then displays the reason. This is the high def version of AntiVirus Shodown on YouTube which might show the pop-up more clearly.

Nice tests on youtube interact! Thanks for testing...
DriveSentry looks promising, but I don't know if I like having to conect to a remote database everytime something executes...

    hurst,

I've just done series 2 :) PrevX CSI, Mamutu and SSM which i will post onto YouTube later. Drivesentry was very impressive with real virus samples especially when I didn't download the local database or allow net access! The signature database is downloaded locally when Drivesentry first runs so it will work offline. Also I noticed if you goto the options screen you can see new signatures being downloaded automatically while you're online. The malware database is now at 1.1 million

What's the consensus on the database?

    Remote or download?

Lighter if remote but no protection if off-line. If you are always connected are there any disadvantages in the remote database?

    Ian,

A local DB is much faster for scanning it's very slow going via the remote DB. I don't see much difference with application start-up as an example 17mb Adobe CS3 takes about 0.5 secs extra to load with Drivesentry running.

    Cheers.

Could you check that you can open URLs and email links in Word and Excel files.

I am getting an error saying the operation is cancelled due to restrictions on computer. Please contact system admin.

Is it something to do with DS?

How can I get the links working again?

EDIT: answered my own question by uninstalling DS and links are now working.
