Put A43 File Management in a folder on a USB flash drive. It makes navigating folders much easier than using the Command Prompt.

    Hi sir Bryan,

Yes it has a single NTFS Primary partition and it is set as Active.

I plan to format it with disk management in control panel, after a Quick format should I set it back to Active or will it automatically set itself Active?

    Thanks again. :)

There is no need to format it. It's fine.

    Hi,

Just curious sir Bryan. For example I would like to try the above to make my own DOS boot, upon the restore process Should one click YES or the NO part? Just asking as I may want to try it later on on my dad's VM to practice. Thanks :)

Okay I wont format it anymore then. Thank you. :) I'll just leave it the way it is. This Seagate is so cute. ( Its my first time to use one as my backup drive) I only use USB before. :)

CJ, you will have to read the message. I can't recall the wording but as you are planning to do this in a VM it shouldn't matter if you make the wrong choice.

    Hi Wendi,

Just to bring some closure to this issue (as to how my episode went down)...

I believe that the cause of my difficulties in building a customized DS DOS Recovery CD (per Brian's instructions) was my notebook's RAID configuration, a 32GB mSSD together with a 750GB HDD (which requires a special Intel RST driver). While the CD seemed to recognize my internal and external hard drives, shortly into the image-file recovery the process froze (I tried several times, with a few different .sna files, but the very same thing happened)!

As mentioned above, I believe this was due to my notebook's hardware configuration and not Brian's DOS-scripts.

I have added Total Commander to the disk but unfortunately I noticed that some applications that I added don't run because they are not valid x64 applications I guess. I have gotten an error message which said that the required Subsystem to run this application is not present or something...

    I created a amd64 PE Image...

    Hi Arcanez :)

A43 is x86 only according to B.G. Miller, the author. It is a very nice portable file manager, but he states he has no plans to ever release an x64 version.

He does make available some portable file managers he personally uses, both x86/x64 capable and he has made them available on his website as a download.

He states: "I have posted some file managers I use while working on dead machines from a USB drive. These may/may not be helpful to some but they are used by me just about daily to bring the machines back to life. They just give me access from a WinPE USB drive to start diagnostics on the machine. This includes x86 and x64 versions. If these are deemed usable by others I will start a separate page just for these and try to help any that need it. For now grab them here."

    Homepage: http://www.a43filemanager.com/
The download link is on the left side column of the homepage
for the filemanagers.zip file. I tried to include the actual download link,
but it would not work properly. Made me wonder if this is even his real site, but the
download seemed fine when I tried it.

I hope this helps in some way. :)

    Jim,

Great find. I didn't know those files were on the A43 site. I just tried the 64-bit File Manager in 64-bit TBWinRE (it doesn't have a graphical file manager) and it is very impressive.

I don't know if I read it here at Wilders or not (so if this is another member's idea, forgive me!) but Explorer++ is portable and it comes in both 32 bit and 64 bit flavors. I have tried E++ after booting from the Win 7 recovery CD and it works fine (as long as you run the correct version.)
