Well I guess it's time to get my eyes examined again treehouse - I only see the installation versions. Would you point-out the Windows portable exe for me?

    WaSalaam 786,

Thanks for the link in the PM. I have used the free version in the past for cloning and it is the best. I wasn't aware that it can be used as portable. One always learn something new in life.

I have installed it in the past, cloned and then uninstalled it.

    Salaams,

    Mohamed

all you need is to put the exe on a CD, or other portable media, along with imagew.ini which contains your license info.

without the licence info it will run in trial mode

    why not?
this is a discussion forum and i might learn a few thing or 2 in the process. :)

    Hi Scott,

From a WinPE you just need imagew.exe or imagewc.exe to create and restore images. But from Windows, PHYLock needs to be installed to create images of the OS. Is that what you meant by not truly portable?

    Hi Brian,

I really didn't want to pursue this because I hold IFW in the highest regard (next to DS of course) and I wouldn't want anything I say to be construed otherwise.

Imho a truly portable Windows app is one where the executable (in-itself) is sufficient to run the app, without the necessity for any suppoting files whatsoever. Furthermore, a truly portable Windows app may be located on, and executed from, any Windows-supported drive.

ok i tried on a active@bootdisk...DS portable works really well.
ifw.exe asks me for serial...even with ini...

in fact active@bootdik says it works only with portable apps.

What files are needed for active@ bootdisk to work as portable application?

The ini file which contains the license information is called, "imagew.ini". If you open the file with notepad it will contain your license information as follow:

    Best regards,

    KOR!

i think he meant that portable applications run in the active@boot disk environment.

active@ boot disk is not an application but a mini live system.

active@ disk image however is portable, just take the install folder from program files and your good to go, cant remember how i added a licence to it but am sure Brian K knows how to do it.

    Salaams,

OK, thanks for the information. The license information called, "BootDisk.key" has to be in the root of the disk and the directory where the files resides. Didn't know about being portable like that.

Iron Man they said the same thing to me, " Consider buying a different product" lol. Although in my setup, i downloaded the 64 bit version which than allows me to create an image which i can use if my system crashes by running the windows 7 disc to boot than choose repair or something to that effect. Only thing is they got so annoyed with me that the last step requires you to type something into command prompt and they havent responded back to me on what to type in there. If anyone knows id appreciate the help.

    Moosehead77,

I'll have a go. So you have the Drive Snapshot boot CD and not a WinPE CD?
Do you already have a Drive Snapshot image backup of your OS partition?
Would you like to know how to restore that image backup?

Can you post a screenshot of Disk Management?
Where is your image backup stored?
    Which OS do you have?

Yes it is so easy but the support was not ready to elaborate. I just have to put the exe in a WINPE CD. And that's it. Then I can restore images or take them from the CD. It's very easy when I get the hold of it. Thx to my friends here like Mohammed and Scott, I now have no problem whatsoever. :)

Brian you gotta slow down for me...lol..im totally oblivious when it comes to backups. Reason i need it, i was running windows 8 and crash of the century bigger then the great depression. So now i wanna be safe. But it should be simple burn the image on a external HD when system crashes load it off there. But no i have to burn the image, stick it in the blender, put it on a CD or DVD, take it to the court house and have it approved by a judge, Take it to a church and have it blessed, than it'll work.

    I have windows 7 (x64).

I downloaded the (x64) version of drive snapshot.

burned the image to an external hard drive.

    thats it so far.

If you can recommend an easier program that does the work and when the crash happens i can just load it up i would appreciate it.

Perhaps a simpler process. Unless drive snapshot is a simple process and all i need to do is learn the process.

In any case thanks for any help you could provide.
