I not looked at the MBR yet but Windows 7 has the same bootloader as Vista so it probably a Vista MBR still.

Thanks Alot. It good to get some positive feedback :). Now that i got the website up i can go back to concentrating on Drive Snap fully.

    Hi,

What is current Drivesnap status. I registered v1.1 some time ago, and I saw nothing new since then. Thanks.

DriveSnap has gone commercial, you may download the free basic version or the full version from www.drivesnap.com.

Sorry, due to lack of interest, Drive Snap has been discontinued and hasn't been updated in a long time.

There is no free or commercial version anymore, drivesnap has become hidden "AbandonWare".

Can anyone please share the last free version of Drive Snap? I purchased the "pro" version but after reformatting it will not register and I don't know anyway of contacting the developer. Tried a PM here but he has been absent for some time now.
    Merry Xmas everyone :)

I happen to have it (although I don't use it)... Since this is the freeware version, I assume uploading it is ok.

YW ....personally, I find it much easier (and faster) using DS from a Windows environment (e.g., BartPE/WinPE). ;)

Does DS works with Win7? Restores are good without boot problems? Thx

I think so, as long as you don't change any partition layout, since Win7 appears to boot from a special and hidden partition, called "System" (on my Samsung).

Recently had a few requests to re-up the free version, so for those interested it's here - but imho, DS is so much easier to use with its Windows GUI.

I had many communications with Markymoo during the development of his Frontend. It is a good app. It can perform automated restores from DOS and from BartPE. But as Aaron points out, restoring from a WinPE CD with the DS GUI is so easy to learn that the Frontend didn't take off. Markymoo was very disappointed that so many people encouraged him to develop this app but very few actually brought it. Six months of hard work for only a few dollars.

I do hope he will return to this forum.

I echo Aaron & others, & posting here to encourage anyone to try/use DS from a BartPE-type BootDisk environment -

it provides a simple but effective GUI that just "git-er-dun" !

been using DS extensively now for a couple weeks
as I've rebuilt an XPsp3_Pro_x32 Master Image for multiple machines from scratch with a couple tiers of apps -

simply installed my DS .exe into the most basic BartPE & overwrote the trial app there.

Also using ShadowProtect v3.5 from the WinPE-based disk, and it's only a few seconds slower than DS.

Neither imaging app is installed on any system - run each of them from a bootCD,
and I love the way that both of them verify the image immediately after creation.

Man, is this thing fast & simple!!!!! My images are quite lean to begin with -
(from 1.2 GB to < 3 GB depending on the tier & the apps installed)
nLited & Services configed, Atlantis word processor instead of MicroGunk,
my heaviest app is Acrobat 9 Pro w/ plugins trimmed so it starts fast.

    My C:\ is OS+apps only ~ 5 GB with a 1 GB pre/post Pagefile

    [ D:\Data, E:\dLoads, F:\Apps.store, G:\Music, H:\eBooks, I:\Images, V:\VMs ]

Browsers (IE.8/FFox/Opera) all start/operate in Sandboxie running in a 500 MB RAMdisk,
& AHK + StrokeIt fine tune everything else.

Machines all have 2 GB RAM, 5400 rpm hdds -
but DS both images & restores @ just under 3.5 minutes,
    including BartPE's start-up time!

Come on, who can't take a stretch/"p-e" break whilst you give birth to a fresh machine ? ----
without the uncertainties / complexities of HyperOS or any other multi-OS / ISR type app?

Until Todd comes out with the new FD-ISR , I love this strategy w/ DS -
I gave RollbackRX v.9 a shot, but even that is just a bit too cumbersome for my needs ( tho' to each their own, right? ;)

I look forward to seeing how it goes w/ Windows 7 & DS,
but ShadowProtect will handle it regardless.

Also plan to build one of the WinBuilder LiveXP type boot-disks -
I think they start up as a RAMdisk alot faster than BartPE, too.

Anyways - if you've been thinking of giving Drive Snapshot a try,
I highly encourage it - reading thru this forum you will basically only find success stories :thumb: :thumb: [that's 2 tu!]

    *** edit ***

there are so many fantastic resources on this forum!
just came across this tut. by Sully explaining how to fast-boot to a copy of your BartPE + imaging software (he uses Macrium in the example)
from your hard drive in RAM - just makes everything that much FASTER! :D

Well I'm a little disappointed that I paid for Drive Snap changed my system and now it does not work and with no way of contacting Markymoo. I also don't think the free version is much use as mentioned above. o_O

Yes it did work. It appears to be system dependent. I changed to XP Pro from Home and it will no longer register. It tells you contact DriveSnap.com for the final unlock code which I obviously cannot do.

    hello :D
i m using Drive Snapshot for 3 weeks, its really a nice program for making backups of Drive, considering its size i.e.,1.67 MB. However i m using FD too, before Drive Snapshot. My query is how do i make a snapshot of the present windows, excluding the other snapshot in the $ISR folder altogether(to reduce the size). Is it possible, some examples were in 1st page but i couldn't follow it. Since i m new to Drive Snapshot,do i h' to do from the GUI or from cmd prompt. (Any suggestions)

    Drive Snapshot amazing program

The relevant information below is from the Drive Snapshot website. They will have to be used as command line options, preferably in a *.bat file. Also, Drive Snapshot is 250k and requires no installation.
