I know during the days of XP, running SG TCP Optimizer was vital to maximize the performance of your internet connection , is it still the same with Windows 7 or am I better of leaving the Windows 7 defaults?

My connection speed is 16 mbps down / 1 mbps up

from my experience, win 7 is much better optimized by default, i would not tweak it any further as the gains are not worth the instability

edit- my connection speed is the exact same as yours so i defo would not change anything

Yep, I think Windows uses the "Safe" or "generic" options by default and TCP optimizer gives you ones more tuned to your computer.
