    hello everybody,

    i am using eset nod32 4.0.314.0.
for some time now, and it runs nicely...
recently i've updated firefox from 2.0.0.16 to 3.5.3 and got intersted in addons. however, whenever i try to install or even download an addon i get an error message.

    i am running win xp sp3, spybot s&d 1.6.2
i have tried to install various addons with antivirus, spybot and windows firewall disabled (i also killed the teatimer process).
however i found out that eset processes are still running, even after disabling self defense and everything else and rebooting.
so i'm starting to suspect nod32 to prevent firefox from installing or even downloading the addons...

from the firefox point of view i have tried almost everything...
    if you're interested:
    http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=1518385

from the eset point of view, i tried temporarily disabling all protection, i tried to switch off self-defense, i tried to kill the ekrn and egui processes, and in address management, i excluded the website in question from filtering and added it to the list of allowed addresses.

    as administrator, no other users.

never managed to even achieve a change in the behaviour towards addons...

    anybody guess what's happening there?
    is it nod32?
can i exit nod32 completely without uninstalling it?

    thanks.

You're using a quite old build of v4. First of all, try installing the latest version to see if it makes a difference. You can first uninstall the current version to confirm or deny that the problem disappears. Should the problem persist with the latest build 4.0.467, try disabling real-time protection for a while to test if disabling it makes a difference.

    thanks.
i managed to install addons now!
this is what i did: first i uninstalled spybot completely. (look in the forums for how to do that!!!) - still not possible to install or download addons (see above).
then i launched the system config utility (start->run->msconfig) and in the services and startup tabs i unchecked everything that has to do with eset.
restart - quickly download all addons.
    check the previously unchecked. restart.

but still i wonder where nod32 prevents me from downloading addons...
i understand very well why a virusprotection program would see them as dangerous, but there should be a way to go around that? like, trust everything that comes from that domain (addons.mozilla...)? is it possible to edit that kind of exclusion?
