Does F-Secure uses KAV database?

 

Yes. It has 3 engines. Kav, Orion, and one other engine which i dont remember right now! Hehe.

 

F-Secure has AVP/KAV, Libra and Orion (which are made by F-Secure), and also the Draco engine (which is actually F-Secure's implementation of Lavasoft Ad-Aware engine).

 

By the way, F-Secure uses previous version of KAV engine, so it was specially to keep in reserve some benefits foe KAV.

But the databases used is the same.

 

But F-Secure itself reports the KAV engine version as 6.0.....

But yes, database is the same.

 

Engine itself is 6.0. Don't get fooled by the beta version of KAV/KIS2006.
Engine is one thing and entire program is another.

 

Is there any e-mail of F-Secure? I want to ask this question for them, because some friends do not believe in you...

 

why are some files detected by kav and not by f secure?

 

F-Secure does not use KAV's extended database for Spyware/Riskware/Adware scanning (Ad-Aware engine is used instead). Maybe thats why......

Also, F-Secure updates only once or twice in a day.

 

Back in the days(long before KAVs extended database even existed), F-Secure wasn't able to detect many trojans that were already detected by KAV. It Appears that nobody knows why (except the right people of course, but they are not telling you a thing).

My theory is that F-Secure KAV engine database isn’t limited but there are some restrictions made within the program itself (to meet licensing requirements).

The iStreams was only part of the KL v5 line program range, and not the engine itself.
