    Ashampoo AntiVirus gives you comprehensive protection against viruses, worms, ... built on the award-winning F-PROT Antivirus scanning engine, ...

    The Avira engine was never confirmed, it was only an educated assumption.

    It is a Avira Engine 6.38.0.2 ;)

    //EDIT//
    This version seems to be a little bit heavier

    No, you probably saw this:

    The "built on the award winning F-Prot engine" comes from a separate link advertising F-Prot 6. ;)

    It is not uncommon for vendors to change their AV engines from time to time. This is especially true of those who have little experience in the field of viruses. For example, PC Tools, eXtendia, Ashampoo, etc. So I wouldn't be surprised if they did change the engine. But most likely such a change will not happen until at least version 2.0 of Ashampoo AV is released.

    Since they just launched this not to long ago I would doubt that they would switch yet, also since they are both German companies I imagine that there is a little bit of patriotism and comradery. :)

    Of course. And MicroWorld eScan should use QuickHeal engine because of comradery and patriotism (eScan's development and R&D center is in India)? :p :D

    Such things have little value in the long run; except of course being in the same country the licensing charges for the engine are lower. MicroWorld didn't use QuickHeal engine probably because it had crap detection rates, but for Ashampoo, they are probably getting a very good licensing deal for an engine with excellent detection rate. So they'll probably stick to AVIRA. ;)
