Introducing Pocket into Firefox may not have been a smart move by Mozilla but do not let that put you off from trying Pocket. I have been using Pocket both on Android and Chrome since quite some time. I mainly use it to save articles for offline reading and as a tool to archive them in case I need to refer to them again. Give it a try.
I don't know why some people object to Mozilla including Pocket. I bet many people who use smartphones would sometimes like to be able to read articles on their desktops. This is similar to syncing tabs from other devices which has been a feature in Firefox for a while.
I have been using Pocket for some years, and actually I had its add-on already installed...so this new feature does not change anything to me.
