hi may i ask you if you trust of O&O ShutUp10 ? do you think it could mess up windows 10 ? i don't want to create restore point ,i have disabled them and if you want can you share your settings? just because mine is in my native language and the translation is bad ,i can not switch language thanks
Yes I trust it. So far it has been on point. I also trust Destroy Windows Spying. DWS blocks telemetry hosts by the Firewall which is why I like it..
No. I don't create restore points. I create them manually. The only stuff I leave enable is Windows Update, Lock Screen username, and Network Connectivity.
I do trust it, and it seems to work well, however, I noticed that when I tried to set things back to the default Win 10 settings using Shutup10, it doesn't always return all settings to the default. So my take on it is, if you use it, it's rather permanent. If you want 10 back to it's factory defaults again, you'll have to reinstall 10. Also, I've never in my life used any system restore points, so I have no idea if that would work or not..
I do not : it messed up with automatic windows updates and I had to reactivate it manually, which was not easy. Shut up 10 wouldn't reverse the changes itself.
FWIW I have all Shutup10 switches green except for two Lock Screen: Do not display last users & Do not show user ID are red. I'll restart after any switch changes. I'm on v1.4.1385. I've run 1383 & 1384. I'll manually create restore points. With regard to Windows Updates. I'll change WU Service to Manual (from Disabled). That allows me to run wushowhide & run Check for updates. Shutup10 knows when I've changed WU Service to Manual (from Disabled). I can accept or revert change. I'm always Admin user account. YMMV
It is trustful if you know what you are going to disable and what repercussions it will have... example if you like to use the Map apps , don't expect it to work if you disable all geolocation.
hi thanks can you you switch the language? mine is my native language , but i would like to switch in english thanks
My gripe with shutup10 is that the WU update switch is not revesible : once disabled, OS10 won't re-enable it.
Hmm, do you Restart (not Shut down) after red to green..? I just work with Automatic Windows Updates disabled (2 of 2). And Woody Leonard suggested tools. I don't want automatic with W10 Home. Shutup10 for me with regard to WU's is like belt & suspenders.
Yes I restarted but Windows Update was stuck somehow. I had to reactivate manually the corresponding service (not sure how I managed it actually but it did require some manual intervention). I fully understand the annoying side of the automatic updates, I got the anniversary update with the wrong timing !!!
Hmm, I just toggle Windows Update Service > Disabled to Manual and Shutup10, Automatic Windows Updates disabled (2 of 2) follows. I held off 1607 feature update for several months.
Ok but after disabling WU, and re-enabling from SU10, did you check in "Parameters" (Windows 10) that it was back ?
Once I toggle WU Service Disabled to Manual. I'll run Wushowhide (which checks for updates) & I'll hide or show. Then, I'll run WU Check for updates.
http://www.infoworld.com/article/30...tes-without-breaking-your-machine-part-2.html I don't fiddle with the registry. Just ConfigureAutomaticUpdates & Wushowhide tools. Once a month when Woody says okay. I'll run Macrium. Then toggle Windows Update Service Disabled to Manual. And run Wushowhide. Show or Hide updates to my preference. Then run Windows Updates > Check for updates. Only "show" updates will be found and installed. ConfigureAutomaticUpdates is always @ Disabled.
Thanks a lot for sharing. It's a bit elaborate for me and there are so many possible side effects that I think I'll keep automatic updates running (but keep updated image backups...).
Yeah, seems elaborate. After my second run. It was intuitive. And with Cumulative. There's less updates to play with. First time. I just "show'd" MSRT. Just to experience W10 'Check for updates' process and to confirm that Wushowhide tool worked. Now, W10 updates feels like pre-W10 for me. After my in-place W8.1 to W10 upgrade. I setup ConfigureAutomaticUpdates & Wushowhide. Shutup10 was added months later. I had my WU's regimen setup before adding Shutup10. Hope we didn't go too far off topic. Cheers
When I tested it with Shadow Defender, it did not create restore points when it said it did, and not all tweaks could be reversed to default. I prefer to change settings myself so that I know they can be reversed.
Um, did Current Usage increase but, Restore Point did not populate to list..? Not for nothing...with1511 the first version of Shutup10, did not create Restore Points when it said it did. Next version of Shutup10 was okay regarding Restore Points. Now, on 1607. Restore Points are created as evident by Current Usage increase but, point does not populate to list. I think that's glitch with my 1607. Just saying. Thinking, I'll reset to default and check Settings to see what's what. Thanks
No, sorry it was back a few months. But you can try this video, I followed his advice, not only it makes Win 10 faster, but it also addresses settings dealing with privacy. "Making Windows 10 Run Blazingly Fast with these 9 Simple Tips." by Matt Rizos https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4V_ZSi9BeEA
