Windows 8.1 doesn't defrag a SSD, it uses the term optimisation which means it basically run the TRIM command on the SSD.

You should never defrag a SSD drive as it will just wear it out quicker.

Defrag is not necessary on an SSD and as mentioned, if one does defrag an SSD, it can wear the drive down quicker.

In Windows 8.1, an optimization (not defrag) is ok to be ran once a month.

On my Windows 8.1 machine, I initiate an optimization on the very last day of each month.

Some people just let Windows Defrag schedule an optimization for the SSD, but as for me, I like to initiate one manually.

Your SSD, depending upon the brand, may have its own Optimizer or Tool Kit of some sort, look for it. Like Banzi and TyRidian said, never, ever defrag a SSD.

As I said Win 8.1 doesn't defrag a SSD, it optimises it by running TRIM command on it, the errors from it trying to optimise the system reserved partition are probably due to that partition being a hidden one, MS seems to have forgot to hide that in the optimise drives app.

Actually it does not defrag it. It attempts to as a scheduled tasks and then logs the failure of it. They annoying thing is that it continually attempts that task.

No, sorry, do not. Every company does things differently. Two suggestions: first, go into your Start button, you know, very lower left corner, search All Programs for your SSD manufacturer. Second, go to your SSD manufacturer's website and look around. But if they included it with your SSD then you probably already have it somewhere but, as with mine, it was not immediatly apparent. Again, just search around.
