Many times what's included is for marketing purposes. If the customers believe it should be included then it is or the customer finds an alternative product. Whether or not it's actually needed is a separate issue altogether.

I would like to see some tests with web AV active compared to disabled, not just a snap test but over say 1 month browsing "dodgy sites" to see if any extra protection is gained

This was discussed at length in the past with contribution from virus experts too... to cut it short and over simplifying, the main advantage of a web scanner is to avoid/prevent certain malware strains to load in RAM and do their job from there... :)

Well if the folk who understand why they are included and think they necessary then that's a good enough reason for me to leave it running

I think it is extremely necessary. "Nice to haves" like search result markups are not required but I wouldn't surf online without web protection in some form.

The discussion is far from over based on that quote, but I agree, all this has been beaten to death several times before in many threads, so this one is pretty much over... :)

It would be interesting to know how comodo internet security users feel on this, seeing as cis does not have web protection of any description and yet still manages to protect its users.:)

No you don't and all the apps that try and go their are nothing but spyware that track your internet usage

Try this it works better because.

"A" doesn't spy on you in real time.
    "B" doesn't need cloud.
"C" can be turned off in one click.
"D" primary goal isn't to spy on people and sell that information to anyone with cash on hand.
"E" updated ip lists take like no space on your hdd.
"F" updating lists doesn't involve stealing info from your computer like most of the live update anything programs from people that don't want to give you the full installer.

Not counting Comodos DNS filter of course, the Virtual Kiosk(with virtual keyboard), Auto Sandboxing/HIPS,AV,Killswitch and unknown file scanner is more than enough to be totally protcted online.

I think separate web protection would of course be needed if no sandboxing or hips where used.
